I'm probably weird for this, but I play the Pathfinder games more for the story and characters and less for the combat. The 3rd DLC seems to be mostly combat, with little or no story. Probably good for folks that just want to test new builds and parties, but not so much for people like myself.
Whilst you could play this game mode for hours upon hours as a roguelite dungeon crawler, I use it as a vessel for trying out builds and synergies. This also has the effect of making this an ideal newcomer's approach to this complex game and ruleset, so if you or someone you know wants to get into this game, get 'em to play this DLC to mess around and learn how things are and what they like the most.
It's also a good mode to just mess around in with a full custom party... wanna go in with 6 cleric dwarves? Tiefling & Dhampir kineticist triplets? Just 2 brothers? Or as a "one-punch man"? Roleplay out a fantasy with this game mode.
I will say, though, that the room designs are copied often and you'll see the same blocks repeated. You'll know where treasure chests, enemy spawns and exits are. But to balance this out there are more varied enemies compared to the campaign, such as more fey and beast enemies.
All around it's a fun mess about, more RPGs should have modes like this to make their games more replayable.
Shocker! This DLC is GOOD! After 2 atrocious DLCs I had given up on Owlcat and already regretted buying the season pass. I still regret buying the season pass, but the final DLC is actually quite good (good, not great).
The Treasure Of The Midnight Isles is the equivalent of Kingmaker's Beneath the Stolen Lands, meaning it's a rogue-like dungeon. If you don't like this type of experience you will probably not like the standalone part of the DLC.
There is a "Story version" of this DLC weaved into the main story, but this ditches the rogue elements and is shorter.
The Treasure Of The Midnight Isles seems to be the last DLC which you get with the season pass, apparently there are more DLCs to come which will require purchasing the second season pass, but given the track record (2 complete bombs, 1 good DLC) I won't be buying that one.
I have no complaints about the gameplay or the actually content of the DLC, but the decision to restrict saving and *not autosave at any point* means if, and when, the game crashes you can lose hours of progress.
... there is very little new content overall and there is no possibility to manually save, you just keep some of the benefits with you new crew.
I like permadeath and dungeon crawling, so the core gameplay here was a great fit for me.
You explore islands with your group, each island is a mini-dungeon, and clearing the island gives loot and usually some additional benefit.
There is minimal story, you just sail out for some dude with a secret I could guess after a few minutes.
The new items and enemies are minimal and nothing to write home about, there are basically no new assets as far as i can tell (except the ship, and that looks terrible and is inconvenient as you rest far away from the helm where you do all the other stuff). The islands are all familiar after a very short time - there are like less than 10 different island types, they are quite small, and it gets repetitive very fast. I got bored halfway through, lowered the difficulty and just ran thrugh the islands as fast as I could.
TLDR: Not worth the money i.m.O unless you like repetetive dungeon crawling with little story. 2.5/5
