The game is awesome. I've read lots of reviews of this game and first i was disappointed from what reviewers wrote about the game but i gave it a shots and now i love it: the story is great and engaging, the npc are well written and funny (nok nok is so hilarius).
The game is also pretty challenging more than POE or DOS , i'm playing on medium difficulty and sometimes if you dont pay too attention on the encounter you risk to die.
To be short, this game is awesome!
The talkie version...
I have never stumbled on BG or similar games due to lack of english education and internet in my early ears.
But one day my friend showed me Neverwinter nights and I fell in love with it.
Many years later the succesor came as NWN2 but as my high expectaions were not met I was disapointed. The game was just fine. And that was a problem.
Few weeks ago I have seen some crazy tavern trailer and after looking in to few videos about the game I knew I have to at least try it. I was afraid, that mechanics will inherit some nasty habits from NWN skill point system. But these worries were dispersed after few hours of game play. Devs have tryed real hard to minimalize the variety of skills and how to use them. There are tons of opportunities which are relying on your skill set and affects the game play. But you dont have to worry about it too much, because if you are not alone, your party will support you with their great rolls instead of yours.
Character classes are great, there are many options to play with and you can spend tons of hours to think about crazy builds. There are some real crazy builds I always wanted in NWN and could not make them. Now I can!
The companions are unique, they have theirs own point of views on the world. Some may just bore you to death and some may laught you to death. :D
The storytelling is smooth and griping to the act. Interesting enemies and adjustable difficulty system, which will alow you to experience the story or the challenge. Depends on your tastes. You can adjust settings at any moment.
And if you will have enough of fights you can just relax with building of cities and scheeming politics.
This game is real succesor of NWN styled games with intriguing mechanics and story telling.
There are some bugs but no critical issues.
The devs are delivering patches almost every day and working real hard. And I think they care for their game the same way the CDPR cares for theirs games.
Mouse lag is insane. Scrolling jumps map vision all over the place. It's so F**KING annoying. And the sickest part is that it didn't use to be this way. However since I bought a new faster computer and installed it on that one it has appeared. On my slower PC this was not a problem!
F**KING FURIOUS
As someone who has recently started playing D&D, enjoyed several CRPGS (Divinity 2 and PoE2 in particular) i was looking for something a bit closer to the table top experience. So i bought PK and the first thing i noticed that was, if i had never played D&D i would have no idea what was going on.
Im all for not having a game hold my hand and treat me like an idiot, but character creation assumes you have several tabletop campaigns under your belt. Combat is, well, heinous, and it makes everything feel like molases, its a messy blob of stuff happening that barely makes sense. Not having a turn based mode makes this unplayable for me.
I also do not understand the obsesion with using a D20 system for a computer game. Dice are what we use because its the best thing to use for a tabletop game, since we have no computers to do it for us. In video games, we do. Its a different medium and should be treated as such.
I gave it two stars as i don't think there is anyway i could like this game as is, but understand that many people do like it for what it is. This just isnt obvious. Its also well voice acted - what i experienced - and beautiful to look at.
I started the game, you can't build your team. You build one character and get wiped.
You meet people along the way and get wiped with them. So like, I built a Wizard. you start the game you are beyond weak. Basically, you can't kill a fly. Seriously, a fly would butcher a team of 10 characters in this game. You meet a bard, then a barbarian who is strong hitting but with 15 HP she's not long for this world. So while you hit for 1-10 dmg. Any enemy in this game hits 18-20 dmg. While you hit 3 times a year. Every enemy hits 80%. You have magic missles that do 1-6 dmg. They have 2 archers shooting twice doing 7-15 each shot. I tried. I really tried. Why can't I build my team? So at some point in the game I have the following characters: Wizard, Bard, Cleric, Wizard, Wizard/Fighter, Barbarian, Paladin(?)
5 spell casters. What am I going to do with 5 porcelain spell casters? One archer kills my entire party in 2 turns. There are 3 archers 2 wizards and a boss who summons a wolf every turn. I'm throwing mud at them. My barbarian is getting gangbanged my paladin/fighter/shield-maden is swatting at flies, and 5 spell casters together can't start a fire with matches. You encounter a pig? You are dead. You encounter a spider? You are dead. You want to rest? Oh yeah the quests are on timers. Rest away, enjoy that.
Just frustrating. You can't have fun on a timer. I want to explore, grind, level up, come back stronger. But I feel like I can't. It doesn't recommand a level for the quests, so you don't know if you are ready to go do a certain quest or you need to grind more. But, a blind, one legged bunny can kill 30 adventurers, so grind where? Maybe you can step on ants somewhere until you lvl up.
Also, the camera doesn't pan around. So if you go under trees, you can't see.
This game is annoying as hell.
