The amount of fun you get from this game compared to its prive is absolutely amazing, Stories are fun, the universe is interesting, characters actualy have a personality.
The biggest problem is the difficulty. Im not talking about the permanent threat of instant game over - I think that keeps the game interesting - but the sometimes you just can play casualy, have fun and the outta nowhere you encounter a monster that will throw you around like a basketball and eat your party´s corspes for brunch.
The difficulty is waaaay inconsistent. On the other hand, you can modify ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING from difficulty to visual modifiers, and evething.
Overal the game is absolutely worth your money, but sometimes you gotta take a break and rest from the bullshit bossfight you just spend 3 hours doing.
Yes mandatory 2 weeks passing time when upgrade or claiming land is an unnessesery pain in this game. This should be removed. Let the kingdom upgrade or claim land and let us play. That how it should be. Other then this the game is almost perfect.
After playing for more than 50 hours I can safely say it is a fantastic CRPG, and the closest to a true Baldur's Gate 2 successor there has ever been. I have not encountered any bugs so far either, so reviews mentioning those must be outdated or I've just been extremely lucky.
What I like most about the game and what it truly reminds me of BG2 is how your companions behave in the game and the story. Other games like Pillars honestly failed at this, they would barely interact with each other and with other NPCs, but Owlcat have done a fantastic job in this game when it comes to interactions and reactivity.
Other than that, the game is not just a copy/paste of the BG2 gameplay, and many aspects have been greatly improved and expanded (I'm especially a fan of the resting system, where you assign tasks for your companions while you're camping).
One thing I should mention is that the game does have timers and you'll fail quests if you take too long completing them. But it honestly gives you plenty of time to do them so it's never really and issue, and more something to make the game a bit more realistic in how you proceed (you'll have plenty of time to do every side quest for example).
Congratulations to the team for this wonderful game. I can't wait for their next game.
So as someone who played baldurs gate and neverwinter nights this game is a true love letter to this games.Very good writing and there is so much depth here as well.Great variety of races and classes and a lot of freedom to roleplay.I started the game not on normal difficulty so i can’t tell how hard it is there but above you get wrecked xx times. The game has a very hard learning curve especially at the beginning but if you push through and level up your characters and learn the mechanics it’s getting way easier. But you can still get ambushed by enemies when you try to rest so even if you understand the mechanics it’s not a guarantee for survival so you will save and load a lot believe me.Don’t put your head into the sand and give keep going it’s worth it.You can also choose between real time and turn based and believe me turn based can save your butt in really gritty situations.A lot of choices a castle management system are also here so if you are a fan of rpgs i would give this game a shot because it’s something special
If what you like is tabletop RPGing, then this is right up your alley. It sticks so close mechanically to the PF / 3.5ed ruleset that as a longtime GM I know just what to expect.
If you're a tabletop fan, then this digital module is going to be a good choice.
Although the choices for character development purposes are intentionally constrained; not every playable race, feat, and skill are represented, but that's for good reason. The game would become an unbalanced mess!
Also, in case you're wondering: YES custom portraits are possible - place them in a folder in your user appdata in Windows, look it up online, I'm not your dad.
