breathtaking visually and simplistic but enjoyable gameplay, had to play around with my GPU and CPU OC settings a bit to get it more stable but wow its a lovely game.
While game is upgraded in visual it also made certain stages feel baron, The gameplay didn't feel elevating and has the problems like quality of life option being locked behind new game plus like the option for hold button to rapid fire (default you have to mash for normal fire) or your dragon hiding enemy projectile and it happens often in the way the game is presented which lead to very awkward situation trying figure out what I've been hit by or trying to shoot down enemy projectile while my pov being blocked by the dragons BuM. While the game is super easy just having those issue is very apparent and FAST.
It's a very short game but as a remake it's done nothing to prompt me to invest more time into it so I won't put more time and leave with a very hollow experience.
I bought the game on sale at 2€ and it was worth it ! I was always intrigued by this game which seemed a bit odd with weird aiming controls but I was so pleasantly surprised by how much it's so enjoyable to control the dragon (I used the modern controls over the original), it feels really good.
It clearly stands out in the shoot'em up genre (to which I'm not a fan of), really impressive for its time with beautiful character designs and quite diverse environments (reminiscent of Moebius's Arzak)
The music arranged by Saori Kobayashi is great. ("Staff Roll" track in mind)
The game is short but that's not a problem to me as I can get bored quickly playing this kind of game. That said it's a shoot'em up so replayability is present with added difficulty, secret options and trying to outscore everyone else (if you're interested in this). If you're looking for extreme difficulty though, that's not it.
If you see this game on sale and are curious to give it a try, go ahead, it's only 2€ after all...
