It took me a while to get the 6 degrees of freedom control down... I played a little each day till I got frustrated and then would set it down and try again a few days later.
Then it all sorta clicked and now I'm having a blast (pun intended)!
This is a great successor of the Descent Franchise, runs fines, performs great on my RTX2070 but there is a little snag on it. it requires a internet connection so that it constantly transmits analytics data for their anti cheating system that they implementing. Worse, it affects key binds when having a VPN on such as NordVPN active, making controls unresponsive and face glitches in the graphics. So if you like the original trilogy of descent games, Give this a shot but be warned. if you do use VPN, make sure it is off so that you will have a great experience
I was not expecting this quality of the game! At first I was wondering, if the game story was actually happening in the Descent universe because the whole gameplay felt pretty descentish. Then at some point a person in the dialog mentioned PTMC...
So yeah, I totally recommend this game. One minor thing that bothered me was that the secret doors can be easily spotted in the map. But overall I'll give it 5 stars.
I joined GOG years ago to get my hands on Descent 1, 2, and 3 that would work on modern machines. (I'm dating myself, but I spent hundreds on an s3Virge card to get descent 2 going in dos...). I find "remakes" to be often disapointing in some way, but Overload is a great game! Keeps what is best about the originals, and adds some very interesting features like upgrades between levels and a pretty good backstory.
My kids and I still play descent 3 multiplayer as it's one of the cleanest and best ways of going head to head in anarchy type play with lots of excitement and humor,(no blood and guts) and once I can upgrade their video hardware, I'm sure overload will not fail to please. A must have game for original Descent fans. Well Done!
