This game has everything I want from a a great adventure - a large open world, cool characters, gorgeous locations, plenty to discover, and a fun way to traverse short and long distances. And what's most - the protagonist is likeable. I have played only 4 hours, and I had a lot of fun. Can't wait to go back to it! ^___^
The game is solid, simple fun. The world is just cartoonish enough to keep the tone enjoyably light, while still having sufficient stakes to keep it interesting.
This game is a real hidden gem. It has a terrific open world teeming with characters and things to do. Half the fun is just moving around that world - you have a jetpack and glide system that makes traversal a blast, with complete freedom of 3D movement. Exploration is rewarded too. The world itself is also clearly a labor of love with hand-crafted attention to detail throughout, and breathtaking artwork. The combat never stops being fun, with a ton of customizability to the guns which changes them into entirely new weapons.
The only time the game falters is toward the end, when several noticable (but not game-breaking) bugs rear their heads, often with the audio. The story's conclusion also felt a bit rushed, and the "twists" can all be seen coming miles away.
But even so, playing the game itself was such a joy and kept me utterly engaged for my 25-30 hours of playtime. This is simply a very fun game.
The setting is really beautiful, and the gameplay is decent when everything clicks and you are gliding from one vantage spot to the other while shooting enemies. But man, this is game is SO repetitive. All you do is glide around (or more likely after a while, teleport around) the map, retrieve whatever you are asked to retrieve, and go back.
Luckily the game tries to mitigate this by breaking down missions in several sub-quests through a mission menu that is incredibly convoluted at the beginning, but that makes sense after a while. These sub-quests can be completed in any order, so it's possible to at least switch from one laundry list to the next.
Other than the pretty world, the other saving grace of the game is the writing. Games does not take itself seriously, and it sprinkles a lot of the dialogue and interactions with Talans with endearing goofiness and silliness.
