A lot better than media will tell you...
This is another of those games, that got a rather mediocre reception and I just cannot comprehend, why that is so.
I followed the original game at release twenty-some-years ago, but I didn't play it at the time, since my hardware was not capable of rendering the voxel graphics with a reasonable performance.
So I am actually new to Outcast.
And for that, I still had a blast during the first 10hours of this game. The movement and the feeling of freedom are just amazing, of course a bit yanky in certain moments, but nothing grave, that could slightly ruin the great experience.
Jetpack and Wingsuit are very well done, you can use it very early in the game in a very satisfying manner.
The world design and graphics are beautiful in my opinion, the vertical levels just match perfectly the jetpack movability.
Of course there are some standard fetch quests, but the let me use the jetpack, and therefore I never got tired of them until now.
I guess the story is pretty standard, but it's okay for me, there are some memorable characters.
I bought 1 day before release and took advantage of the 15% discount. The 60 € price tag might be a litte over the top.
Not that the game might not be worth it, but I would definetely have hesitated in that case.
