Outcast 1.1

Except for being an absolutely marvelous adventure game this game also got the best soundtrack I've ever heard. If you like classical music you should seriously buy this game just for the soundtrack.

It may be dated mechanically and technically, but it still offers a robust and overall fun experience. This game recieved a remaster called Second Contact though I recommend this original version over it solely for the old-school vibe.

I originally played the demo of this back in 2000 and remember being blown away by the voxel graphics at the time. Even now they still are unique in their way, the landscape has a kind of plasticine moulded look to it. The plot and characters are kind of convoluted and underdeveloped. Marion feels like an afterthought. The worst thing about this game is the interface, it's clunky and difficult to get used to, you have to memorize awkward key commands and apparently they decided not to include a mouse cursor for some reason. The music is nice. The ending feels tacked on, the whole plot of this game involves dealing with wormhole or whatever that is threatening to destroy earth, but in the end you don't even discover if earth gets saved or not. But if you ignore the plot and just like running around exploring and shooting, it gets those bits mostly right. The first person view is a nice option, though the FOV is off. The game is above average though. 3.5/5.
