Outcast 1.1 has been recompiled from the original source code and improved to run smoothly on today's computers.The main improvements compared to the original version are: multithreaded voxel renderer for higher performances, software bilinear filtering on polygonal meshes, part of the HUD redesigned to match higher resolutions, new high-resolution sky paintings, new launcher, native support of xbox gamepad, user-friendly controller configuration, a lot of bugs fixed and improved stability.

Please note: Outcast Classic remains available for download as a bonus goodie.

As part of a covert experiment, the US military deployed a probe designed to prove the existence of a parallel universe hidden from our own. Although the probe successfully entered the alternate universe and reached a planet called Adelpha, its first crucial data transmission is mysteriously cut short.

The probe's unexpected demise triggers a disastrous chain of events resulting in the creation of a black hole, one that threatens to destroy the Earth. Unless the missing probe can somehow be found and repaired, planet Earth itself is doomed.

Best computer game ever to be created.

I have been gaming since the Atari 2600 and never has a computer game before or after Outcast enthralled me so much. Absolutely genius skill and craft went into this masterpiece. I bought Outcast in 1999 after playing just a few minutes of the demo. It is hard to believe it has been 11 years since the release of this title.

technical issues take out some fun

a unique and interesting game that does not run well on newer hardware though. the resolution does not get scaled to my monitor correctly and getting a usable resolution out of the game is fiddly and problematic.

Another world...

...which I really would like to live in. Although the graphics is old-school now, I can blend into that world every time I start the game. Just like if I'd been there... I am really sorry about the sequel that has been canceled. I hope to see Slade and the Talans once again sometimes... "Dolotai kez okaar..." :-)

Outcast

I played this game when it was first released and I was completely captivated. No game before or since has had such charming (and amusing) voice talent. The voxel technology is, I suppose, somewhat 'old hat' by todays' mega-graphics card standard...but it still looks good imo. I'm dling this now because my original copy got lost in the 'mists of time'. I hope the game now lives up to my nostalgic memories of it. Long live Ulukai...!
