Great fun! Tight controls.
I haven't finished the game yet, so if anything happens to change my opinion I will come back and edit this review. So far, though, I'm really happy with this purchase. OlliOlli is highly addictive, but in a good way -- I don't feel like it's cynically exploiting my brain's reward circuitry like some games. It's just built on a really well-designed set of mechanics that are fun to learn and execute, backed up by solid level design and a fitting aesthetic. It keeps me playing longer than I intend, but leaves me feeling happy, not regretful. The challenge curve has been great so far -- hard enough to be satisfying, but not too frustrating, and I haven't stagnated yet.
In my opinion the controls are excellent, at least on the Xbox 360 gamepad I'm using. I think the issue pointed out by one reviewer -- the spin and trick modifier buttons being identical -- is actually a decent piece of design. You have to get the timing right, certainly, but I never get the feeling that the game is being inconsistent or unfair.
