great blend of CK-like rpg elements with Civ strategy, allowing the player to roleplay as one of ancient era heroes. AI worth mentioning, even on easy levels game is noticably harder then more famous counterpart
I usually only player sports games. This game has exceed expectations and the value I purchased for was more than fair. Glad to have this service with GoG.
Nice Game and nice new mechanics which take some getting used to. But when you get the hang of it the game plays really well with a lot of flair and many tactical options (which seem overwhelming at first).
One thing which sullies my gaming experience is, that the autosave feature is buggy as h§$%. One time i got every 10 savegame slots overwritten with the same stating point - which was 40 turns ago. Another time i got the same savegame blowup bug that plagued the early (unpatched) edition of Hearts of Iron 1. (Savegames get bigger with each save well over 100 MB with each save)
So I hope they patch this game soon.
Another thing is, that I had to switch on "slow enemy players" for lower CPU usage. Before I did that enemy turns took about 2 mins each time (my PC is abot 7 years old now). With the feature enabled, enemy turns take about 30 secs. I don't really see a difference in enemy behaviour so far.
So all in all - good game - could be a great game with bugs fixed.
This is an excellent game.
The game systems are intricate and really build on each other. The strategic decisions have weight and consequences. The AI is competent and you actually can loose in a way that does not feel as if the AI is cheating.
The Family and advisors and the events system give the game flavour and make that each game plays out differently. Events may "RNG" but so is history and life and it gives new challenges (and the occasional snigger).
The only "negative" I see, is that there just isn't enough... you would like to develop your civilization into the modern age. But I guess it is not called old world for nothing.
There is still Civilization I guess, but going back to Civilization feels stale after Old World and just is not an option for me anymore.
If you like Strategy and 4X Games do yourself a favour and give this game a chance
If i could i would give it 4.5 stars. It is engaging but late game has some issues with the timing of the events. when I had no orders left i was struck with an event that required me to replace a govener, whom had just died, so i was unable to do so. next turn i could not find the location or where the characters passing was affected...
I watched a video of someone saying the order system was positive reinforcement skewed so if you gained a lot of order points early it lead to a clear victor, But ... I found the orders points had a cap. and if you exceeded it the extra earned orders were sold for gold. how this cap works i have yet to figure out.
