What Civ should have become...
... and then some more. Old World maintains the best elements of Civ IV's design philosophy, from its tech tree to the gameplay conception. Following the same tendencies on challenge, the game does not shy away from introducing (alongside its high-quality dlcs) new systems, turning every match into an evolving alt-history narrative. Leaders grow old and die, events shape their personalities, courts tremble with intrigue. The reshaping of resources also comes as an ideal complement to the strategic depth this game introduces, presenting an order limit that intensifies every decision's weight. City development also demands careful attention, impacting cultural development, overall population satisfaction and long-term production. To top it all, the artistic conception works towards immersion, showing great care and attention to detail. I have said elsewhere, and I will repeat here: opening a game to find psalm 121 ("I lift my eyes") in Arabic is a treat for a man of faith like myself, and even if you are not a fellow believer you can still appreciate the artistry behind the version. Such a beautiful song... It matches perfectly the panels, maps and and sprites. All in all, this game is a true digital art piece attached to a superb strategy game. Civ, 4X, art, history and quality gaming fans, do not let this one go by unplayed...
