One of all time favorites
I can spend hours in my nostalgic moments with this game. The characters, the levels, the ideas, are out of this world... Actually in Oddworld...

Let's get one thing straight:
Oddworld kicks ass, and this game kicks ass. Very rarely does a sequel live up to the original, and Abe's Exoddus is one of the few shining examples that does. But for whatever reason, I'm not a huge fan of this game. Don't get me wrong; the name Oddworld is synonymous with humor, good controls, and well-designed levels, and this game is no exception. The cut scenes are actually quite good for the time they were released, with somewhat realistic animation on the CG models. The graphics are sharp and detailed, and the controls are just as good as the first game..that is to say, excellent. BUT, I think what bothers me about this game is that, to me, it lacks the character and originality of the first game. Sure, it's the same character, but I found that the story wasn't nearly as engrossing or fun as the original, and was trying a bit TOO hard to be funny at some points. Plus, while it DOES live up to the original, that works sort of against it as NOTHING is really different. It's almost more of an expansion pack than a standalone game. That being said, Abe's Exoddus is still a terrific game, albeit sort of a copy of the first. I still recommend it wholeheartedly.

Use the modern open-source version
Fantastic game that still holds up after all these years (Purchased on Steam) however played using the open source modernization tool R.E.L.I.V.E. Lets you play the game on modern systems and works flawlessly. 10/10 recommend it as the best way to play this game in 2024.

My favourite platformer
This is my all time favourite platformer game. Very unique, beautifully drawn backgrounds, funny characters, challenging gameplay and puzzles... It's all there. Try to rescue all 300 mudokons! ;)

The Best Sequel that Should be a Prequel
The first two Oddworld games are still some of my favorite games of all time; Easily my top Platformers (though the Crash Bandicoot series would be a close second). The series gets easier as it progresses. I encourage anyone who is new to the titles to START with Exoddus, and treat Oddysee as a prequel. Why? because Oddysee was harder. QuickSave was a blessing when I first played this game about 14 years ago. In retrospect however, you will get so much more satisfaction nailing puzzles in one fell swoop (check points in Oddysee) rather than taking them a baby step at a time with QuickSave. Don't get me wrong, you'll still have many reattempts of the same puzzle, and you'll enter screens thinking "How the heck do I get the blind guy past that slog?". All in all an awesome title. As a side note, I really enjoy the overtones of Industry Vs Nature and the gritty feel to the whole world. Atmosphere is wonderful.
