GOG version *is* version u99r1.
UPDATE (4/15/26) - Docked one star for now being out-of-date. Still a solid build, but the major v100 update dropped on Steam and not here. I'll update everyone here if/when it comes to GOG. Until then, the "second-class citizen" rule applies here.
ORIGINAL REVIEW - I've just picked this up on sale (finally!) and it's the last known official version of the game: u99r1. Exact same version last updated on Steam. Works with the NTT mod and all. Given the glut of negative "reviews" here, it begs the question: what the hell's everyone smoking here?!
Anyway, so much has been said about how great the game is and how horrible the dev has become, and both points are absolutely true. But I will add this...
The primary strength of Nuclear Throne lies in avoiding the slog that most rogue-lites suffer from: wasting your time sinking an hour into a single run, only to lose that progress and take the wind right out of your sails, killing any hype to jump right back in. (Games like Dead Cells and Enter The Gungeon suffer badly from this, I find.) But, like Spelunky, in this game every run is quick and to the point and lasts about 10 minutes, infecting you with the just-one-more bug that keeps you dialed in. Consider that average runtime when I've personally put in over 300 hours across PS4, PS Vita, Switch and PC in the past several years! Oh, and the sound design is absolutely tops in the genre, right up there with Metal Slug.
In short, do yourself a favour and buy it now. Nuclear Throne is an awesome action masterpiece that you can not and should not miss!
