Nox™

I had kind of forgotten about this game for many years. Then I saw it on the list here. It has been 10 years since I've played it, but now after looking at the pics here I have to go dig it out of my closet and have a 3th play through. It is one of the best top down RPGs I have ever played. I enjoyed it more than games like Baldurs gate and Dungeon Siege.

I remember buying this game when it first came out and absolutely loving it. I was expecting it to be Westwood's attempt at making a Diablo 2 clone but what I got was so much more. First of all, it has a lot more in common with games like Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, or even Divine Divinity. The story has a very Never Ending Story sort of feel to it. There's less of a hack-and-slash feel to the game. It's a bit more methodical and story driven. Each class has a different story and different locations. Unlike many games where different story for each class means replaying the same sections but with different dialog or cutscenes, each class feels like you're playing a completely different game and rarely will you explore the same areas as the other classes. If you like RPGs and don't just want a mindless hack-and-slash game, you will want to pick this up

Replayed this game two or three times with each character over 20-something years.

I played this game through and really just had a great time doing so. Its older, but you could hardly tell. The graphics are really good, the frame rate was excellent, the environments are gorgeous and well envisioned, the sound design is absolutely spot on to fully immerse you. You will not regret purchasing this game. I have only one con...Its replay-ability is limited. I played though as the Mage and when I restarted as a different class, it wasn't as much fun because I knew the maps and what was coming. The first time through is definitely the best. Its been a couple years since I played last so maybe I'll try a different class again. So strap on your headphones and turn out the lights and play Nox.

Hard to believe that the company behind the game is mostly popular for creating Sci-Fi RTS games which sadly cast large shadow on this game. It was truly risky try on their behalf. But they defiantly put effort in this game. The best part is when Diablo II was super popular this game didn't try to copy it. The game did it's best to look and feel original. Some elements feel like developers were slacking a bit or didn't know any better. There is too much grinding needed if you don't want it to feel like Dark Souls. Some story elements wasn't developed enough to make sense and feel more organic. Thou, I can put the blame on team's lack of experience when it comes to RPGs. They still managed to pull it off nicely, in my opinion.
