The joy of exploring
The game give you the joy exploring through the feeling of an endless universe. It has a large veriety of items to find, cruetures and minerals to scan and save in your encyclopedia. This game makes you feel emotions and it makes you think about the endless unknown that lies out there.

What I wanted and more
I bought No Man's Sky on preorder, but only recently have I been able to purchase a computer on which I could really play the game. When I was younger, about a deacde and a half ago, I used to play this game called Noctis. Basically, you fly from star to star, refueling and landing on planets, where sometimes you'd come across alien animals that looked like kangaroos. When I first heard of No Man's Sky - about the vision the developers had for the game - I instantly knew it was a buy for me, because I saw it as the spiritual successor to Noctis that I always wanted. And by that criteria it has more than delivered. Anything above that has, for me, been purely icing on the cake. I especially enjoy the vocabulary hunting and the environment scanning aspects. The game does have it's flaws, to be fair. It's not always clear what's availble where (I spent a ton of nanites buying tech at the Anomaly that I later got for free by following the story), and some flaws may be more due to my half-potato of a system than issues with the game per se.

Elite Dangerous could learn from NMS
Though I was really excited for it, I never did play NMS at launch - for well-known reasons. In the meantime, I've been looking for a space exploration/themed game to dig into, that gave me a great variety of things to do, and whose flight controls didn't require many hours, and a dozen (at least) or so different buttons to memorize for every little function. I don't care how deep or detailed your game is, if I'm getting frustrated just getting used to your flight controls, I'm not going to play it. I'm playing a video game, not training for a real-life pilot's license. Looking at you Elite: Dangerous. Anyway, I haven't spent a ton of time in NMS yet, but I can already tell it's going to be a very full, fun and frustration-free experience. Controls are intuitive. Tasks are intuitive. Even flight controls are intuitive! It's almost like Hello Games realized they were making a video game that's supposed to be *fun*, not a pilot's license course! NMS is a great example of how you create a game with a lot of depth and plenty to wrap your head around... while also keeping it fun. I hope to spend many many hours exploring the worlds I'll (hopefully) get to discover and name. Congrats on the amazing turn-around, Hello Games!

Game has Steam exclusive DLC.
And the developer/publisher is actively pushing/forcing GOG and console users to register Steam accounts to get it. Don't buy this shit, seriously, it's not even that good. It's nice if you want a "game" where you fly around a fictional galaxy and build ugly bases on every planet you find but none of it is even remotely challenging, immersive or well designed. Game is jank as hell and you can tell most of it was developed post-release, nothing fits in and nothing adds up to a cohesive experience.

Relaxing experience, steadily expanded
It's getting there. It's by no means an Elite or Star Citizen, and it shouldn't be compared to those two. It gives you a simple universe with simple mechanics, most of which the game tells you not overly much about. You play, you discover, you learn, you advance. With the foundation update came basebuilding and freighter purchasing, which makes a few things easier and adds a layer of quests to fully unlock all the possibilities. Those are pretty much fetch and deliver quests. There is an active modding scene and I recommend changing aspects of the gameplay that are not to taste, for example cutting down on the tedium of launch thruster recharging in survival mode. Pick it up for anything between 5 to 20 of your respective currency and play it to relax. The soundtrack is top notch and could be described as post rock or experimental rock with heavy noise and synthesizer elements, which in my opinion fit this kind of game.
