This game....

This is one of the best sandbox games I've ever played. Highly accessible, with tons of systems to either use, or not use, at your discretion. The systems are not very deep, but there are so many of them, taht you can keep yourself busy for quite a while. This is also the de facto example given by developers for releasing their games in a broken state, because if Hello Games could redeem themselves, why can't we? Unfortunately, very few publisher/dev houses can and will perform the redemption arc that Hello Games did with NMS. Even as someone who typically doesn't enjoy space games much, I love this game. It gets better over time, too, for me, though obviously you might get bored. Functionality is the same as the Steam version, but be aware for best use you will want to use the optional Galaxy client, so that way you have multiplayer enabled and other players are in your galaxy. I know, you might not like MP games, you might not like being connected to the internet.... It IS optional for NMS, but you will want it turned on. The NMS community, for the very most part, is wholesome and welcoming, and you will be afk in a space port and someone will randomly gift you a super rare item, without any expectation of even acknowledgement. Seriously, I don't review many games these days. This game is worth it. These devs haven't charged for a single update or "DLC".

Amazing game

After more than 1400 hours in, I now mostly just play expeditions. Great game, it is always a pleasure to return to it to enjy the colours, the vastness of the universe. Hello Games continuously adds new content and keeps making the game even better. With the new trading system introduced in 2024 some items became perhaps too easy to obtain, but that is OK, I am not complaining about it.

Very good, still have many bugs

pros: - freedom - base building - not combat-oriented (that much) cons: - still have a lot of bugs - multiplayer requires third-party app - game design not very logical at times, confusing when playing for the first time

The spirit of exploration lives

(FYI I own this on Steam w/80+ hrs) Hello Games should get a ton of credit for creating a game of space exploration that somehow sidesteps the major flaws often associated with AAA games where combat, stats and fifteen thousand weapon types overshadow - and often contradict - the spirit of exploration. NMS focuses almost solely on exploring, gathering, cataloguing, and crafting. Base building is limited to one's imagination. Players may also build vehicles, walkers, and submarines for their base. In space the player can buy and/or commandeer cargo freights to create their own fleet. Interstellar trade is constant and allows trade of both legal and illegal items. Players are encouraged to add to the near limitless stock of species and planets by tagging and uploading them. Combat is not emphasized but definitely present. The illusion of a seamless universe is well portrayed. No cutscenes when leaving planets or entering them. There's too much to applaud about it. The main drawback may be the vastness of the universe and sameness of buildings and space ports. For something of this size there was no way they could create unique structures; therefore, you will see the same things repeatedly. To comprehend the size of 18 quintillion planets may discourage those who love to do everything and see everything. It's impossible to do so. There is a main quest if you need something to focus on.

It keeps getting better

I started playing this thru Gamepass on the Xbox and immediately loved it, i was able to purchase it on Xbox so i did not have to rely on a subscription to keep playing it. The cloud save/sync feature is amazing to be able to play on the Xbox and have the save available on PC or vice versa. I purchased on GOG because of they have been amazing in their selection, and having a "DRM" free copy is a massive win. So far i have been thoroughly impressed with the game, the planets, animals, plants. Now with the water responding to weather, it has made the game even more spectacular to play and experience. The new Voyagers update takes the game even further with customizable ship building and the ability walk around in it and use auto pilot to travel to places.
