No man's rinse/repeat

TONS of potential... but it is just that, potential. Unrealized potential. I have roughly 10 hours into the game and if you've played the game for 5 minutes, you've played it for 10 hours. The game starts out with you and your busted up ship stranded on a random planet. You begin by finding resources to repair your ship, fuel your ship, and charge your suit systems. And that's it. I fixed my ship and now I travel to new planets to rinse/repeat every time. To make matters worse, every planet feels the same. Every planet feels lifeless and devoid of any personality (though there is life, they all look/feel the same). The only real significant difference between planets seems to be the quantity of the rarer resources (one planet has tons of gold, another has tons of copper, another has tons of something else) but overall, I've been on 6 different planets so far and so far, they all felt like one uninspired procedurally generated blob of "who cares?". Meter management is super easy, but super boring. Get off on a toxic planet and explore for a while and you have to resupply your suit's toxic resistance that deteriorates over time, it's super easy to do which is why it just feels like a useless gimmick of a mechanic rather than an actual feature. Get off on the next planet and rather than being toxic, it is super cold, and you need the same resources to fill the continually depleting resource. To fuel your ship you need plutonium, same with your gun and a few other systems, which would be an interesting mechanic IF you couldn't find plutonium every 5 feet. Overall, No Man's Sky has a ton of potential, but right now it is so under developed (in terms of being shallow) that I woke up the next day and don't care to load up the game. I'm reminded of an ARPG like Diablo, a loot grinder, but unlike Diablo, where you can find an interesting sword or a cool new spell, you just find the same stuff over and over. I'm seriously considering a refund, if only for the bugs.

Interesting tech demo....

Got at the very tail end of 2020. I had read that it was a great game at this point and was absolutely worth buying. Even with a massive discount it still wasn't really worth it. After "beating" it and seeing all the content. I can say that it was an interesting tech demo. I hope they make a game out of it someday. All the core components are there. It just doesn't end up being fun or interesting. There are more planets than you could visit in a hundred actual lifetimes dedicated solely to playing this game, but there isn't any point. After the first 10 planets they all just feel the same. They all have basically the same stuff, same look, same wildlife. Same things / resources, etc. They could have just made 10 really AWESOME planets and had a much more satisfying game. There are spaceships and they look neat. But they are pointless. They all feel the same and there isn't anything to do with them. My class-S Exotic ship was no more interesting, fun, or capable than my Class-C Shuttle. There are vehicles and they sound awesome. Dune Buggy, Tron Cycle, Mech... but they aren't useful or fun. They are slower and less capable than you are on foot. They are a novelty for about a minute each and then you never touch them again. Got a freighter. It was a neat, but it was just a glorified set of extra inventory slots. Built a base. It was fun to build, but entirely pointless. Found and named countless creatures and planets, but there was no point. Nothing to do with creatures thats fun. "Fighting" them is boring. You can ride them, but slower than you can walk. There is combat, but its awful. Spore had significantly more involved and interesting combat. It feels like less than an afterthought and its inclusion just makes the game more tedious. All the core stuff is there to make a great game. Its a shame they didn't. Story was neat. Its a game about discovery, exploration, and the journey, but its all boring and pointless. Maybe... that's the ultimate discovery?

Expectations confirmed!

Despite the poor start, the developers have fulfilled their promises! The game is really interesting not only in single-player play, but also in the cooperative conquest of space, building your base on the planet, exploring the endless world. I recommend this game!

Best blank screen sim 2016

Currently unplayable. For the first hour all I got was a black screen... Which, thinking about it is quite a good representation of infinite space. After an hour or so of trouble shooting, updating drivers, verifying files and downloading updates to various libraries I managed to get as far as a jittery intro that climaxed with a crash to a white screen. 0/10 Best blank screen simulator 2016

Don't buy this Techdemo

This is not a finished game, this is not even the game we've seen in the Trailers. This is not even the game some company named Hello Games were advertising. This is the techdemo of that game, a good one, but a shallow and buggy one. It looks pretty sometimes, it makes fun but it is not worth your precious 50+ USD or EUR, more like 15 - 20. I appreciate the programming affort behind it, the generation of solar systems, planets, animals and such, but there is so much that needs to be done before we can call this a real Game. Wait for the (hopefully) upcoming patches, improvements and gameplay features over the next year, but don't BUY this game NOW. AND REMEMBER DON'T PREORDER GAMES -- EVER. BR, incureforce
