The game runs terribly right now. I've watched streams of the PS4 version and the ones currently showing the PC version and it runs terrible for almost everyone. I'm running on a 4790k @4.2GHz a 780ti and 16gigs of ram. I've tried locking the game at 30fps, 60, 90 and max it just is all over the place frame rate wise. The FoV is no where near 100 like the settings says. Any time you mine something or shoot something you get massive hitching. It doesn't matte what settings you use the game just refuses to run smoothly. If you have the chance for a refund take it. This is unacceptable especially with TWO delays for this release.

I avoided this game until about 6 months ago and I gotta say its pretty awesome. It doesn't get the love in reviews that it should. The game runs incredibly well on my msi laptop, the game is beautiful, everythings unique in itself, the math used to make this game is SO MATH!, I mean literally endless possiblities, I get to discover and name plants that look like succulents after my wife who grows them, My kids find it hypnotic, Survival mode is tough and unforgiving if you don't pay attention, the basebuilding is simplistic enough but has a lot to offer, enough that I don't feel like I'm wasting time on learning it but enough that i feel like I'm getting somewhere, its not overwhelming at all is what I'm saying.

No Man's Sky is interesting. I has a lot of artistic flair and style despite so much of it being procedurally generated. It's clear that a lot of work went into the individual components so that they would create an aesthetically appealing whole. Problem is unless you're interested in multiplayer and the usual survival sim stuff there isn't much to do in a game that is supposed to be about exploration. I thought there might be something else besides the usual base construction and resource gathering of other survival games, but I was almost two hours in and was just doing the same dull tasks I've grown bored of in similar games. There isn't much to interact with or that makes each world unique in an interesting way. So despite being pretty the environments don't feel lively and complete. Instead I just was stuck with this feeling of being in a good looking but empty place doing drudge work. I'm sure this game will appeal to other people with tastes more in line with the core mechanics I experienced, but if like me you were expecting at least some depth then maybe save your money for something else.

I cannot recommend this purchase. This is not a PC game. At the moment of this review (release day) this game is a poorly optimized PlayStation port, hard-locked to 720p. The performance is abysmal on top-notch hardware. On a 4k ultrawide monitor this game looks as if it was VGA, or rather as if I connected PS4 to the screen. The developer's approach is incredibly disappointing , I feel that the game should not have been released in this state. I won't comment on the gameplay at this time, and in good faith I will not be requesting a refund.

I've been playing this game since release, and over the roughly 2 years since then it has basically been remade from the ground up (writing this just after "Visions" release). The original release was obviously very divisive, and understandably so. It seemed like there were two versions of the game pitched pre-release; the "chill exploration game" and the giant ambitious multiplayer space sim, only one of which was really delivered on. I was disappointed by the release version in a number of ways (mostly performance related), but enjoyed it as the chill (albeit kind of janky) exploration game. It was good for what it was, but could/should have been great. Well, in my opinion at least, it now is. They've delivered on both promises at this point, much more than i had expected, and still more is evidently in the offing. It's now every bit the game i had in my head when watching the first reveal trailer, and then some. I think if you are into space games (and have a beefy modern system) this is an essential game. Which brings me to my one big caveat; the performance on this game is still a (weird) issue. Right now the game runs mostly fine on my system, but following the past 3 major updates the game has been borderline unplayable for at least a month afterwards before unspecified issues were (apparently) resolved. Thankfully Gog allows opting out of updates and rolling back to previous versions... Anyway, short version is don't let the questionable history of this game scare you off of what is now a fantastic experience.
