Inspired by the adventure and imagination that we love from classic science-fiction, No Man's Sky presents you with a galaxy to explore, filled with unique planets and lifeforms, and constant danger and action.
In No Man's Sky, every star is the light of a distant sun, each orbited by planets filled with life, and you can go to any of them you choose. Fly smoothly from deep space to planetary surfaces, with no loading screens, and no limits. In this infinite procedurally generated universe, you'll discover places and creatures that no other players have seen before - and perhaps never will again.
Play with all major updates since launch: Foundation, Pathfinder, Atlas Rises, NEXT, The Abyss, Visions, the 2.0 BEYOND update, Synthesis, Living Ship, Exo Mech, Desolation and the 3.0 update, ORIGINS, Next Generation, Companions, Expeditions, Prisms, Frontiers, Sentinel, Outlaws, Endurance, Waypoint (4.0), Fractal, Interceptor, Echoes, Omega, Orbital, Worlds Part I (5.0), Worlds Part II, Relics, Beacon and VOYAGERS (6.0).

Available for PC and Mac (see recommended and minimum specs for details).
An epic voyage to the centre of a shared universe awaits, allowing you to explore, trade, fight and survive alone or with friends.
At the centre of the galaxy lies an irresistible pulse which draws you on a journey towards it to learn the true nature of the cosmos. But, facing hostile creatures and fierce pirates, you'll know that death comes at a cost, and survival will be down to the choices you make over how you upgrade your ship, your weapon and suit.
Your voyage through No Man's Sky is up to you. Will you be a fighter, preying on the weak and taking their riches, or taking out pirates for their bounties? Power is yours if you upgrade your ship for speed and weaponry.
Or a trader? Find rich resources on forgotten worlds and exploit them for the highest prices. Invest in more cargo space and you'll reap huge rewards.
Or perhaps an explorer? Go beyond the known frontier and discover places and things that no one has ever seen before. Upgrade your engines to jump ever farther, and strengthen your suit for survival in toxic environments that would kill the unwary.
The galaxy is a living, breathing place. Trade convoys travel between stars, factions vie for territory, pirates hunt the unwary, and the police are ever watching. Every other player lives in the same galaxy, and you can choose to share your discoveries with them on a map that spans known space. Perhaps you will see the results of their actions as well as your own...

Decent
Ok, after all the hype and the disappointing launch I point blank refused to buy it. Another developer launching a half finished game and coining it in and then "fixing it" then turning off the servers a fortnight later. How wrong was I!? I waited until the game was patched, on sale and then took the plunge. Yes it is a bit repetitive, but that's what you expect for a game that requires resource gathering and building. It is visually stunning and incredibly easy to loose hours in it. Interacting with alien civilisation, learning key words so you can translate is interesting, as is avoiding the sentinel bots that attack as soon as you do something silly like try to steal resources. Personally I really like this game. Not quite love, there is some room for improvement, but 20 odd quid for hundreds of hours lost time in a fantasy world scanning and harvesting anything that moves before moving into the next is well worth it in my opinion. I have it on PS4 and PC now, and each port is slightly different. The PC is by far the better of the two! The best bit for me? No microtransactions, no purchasing updates and add-ons (they are free = a breath you of fresh air and no annoying 13 year olds using bots and mods whilst shouting profanities. Just good old fashioned, slower paced, visually stunning gaming!

400+ hours of gameplay so far
I have played the PS4 version until recently, having just switched to the PC version. After four different versions of the game, I still come back for more. This has always been a flawed gem but is now (2019) a truly engaging game. Pros: It's magnificently well supported by the developers. Mods for the PC version extend, fix or customise many aspects of the game. Easier than it seems at first - there is lore to absorb. The Beyond update has streamlined the game considerably. Base building is fun! Finding ships is fun! Taking landscape photos on alien worlds is very cool. Finding new planet types is amazing (but rare after the first 20 hours). Cons: PC version uses a lot of different keys - a lot to remember. Seems inconsistent in places. Some mods slow my game to a shuddering mess. Can get stale after you've seen a few dozen planets. There are only so many basic planet types. Meh: Searching for a perfect home planet is hard. It's the same as the loot-grind problem in looter-shooter games, where you're looking for the perfect combination of factors in an item and all else sucks. TLDR Very engaging. Takes some getting into but could eat a big chunk of your free time. Recommended.

A unique game with lots going for it
I absolutely love this game. It looks fantastic from the store page - but many just don't like it. So a helpful review is to discuss the weak points, to set expectation: * it's a pointless game. There is a ton of crafting and exploration to do, but the storyline is contrived and mostly delivered in just text messages. I personally don't mind, as I find the game relaxing to play. * basic gameplay in repetitive environments. Once you've visited 2-3 star systems you will have seen 80% of the variety of planets/terrain/lifeforms/buildings; and probably 95% of the spaceflight gameplay. Once you've explored a square mile of a planet, you've mostly seen every other square mile on that planet. Note that I didn't say 100% though - there are new things to find. * it's not a shared universe. You won't randomly encounter other players, or much evidence that they even exist. The multiplayer has one player instance into another player's game. I play solo, and one thing I like is that there are some elements that are a shared universe - if you discover planets or lifeforms, that discovery is unique to you and visible to all other players. If you build a base, the game seems to check the location is unique - and this means you're crafting your own little corner of a shared virtual universe. And that's a big part of the game I love. * limited customisation - maybe my only actual complaint. The random generation algorithms in the game serve up extremely repetitive ships and costumes. There are customisation options, but they are limited. Not being able to affect the appearance of your ship or even it's colors, for example, leaves you feeling you're just dipping your toe in a shallow simulation. Having said all that - if the game seems appealing and you aren't holding false expectations for it, this is a wonderful game!

Update hurting play
The most recent update has stopped you being able to put tech/tech upgrades in any slot on vehicles a dedicated tech slot, so you no longer have the ability to choose to upgrade your vehicles at the cost of cargo space and must instead use a very large amount of in game currancy to increase your tech slots. Any tech upgrades in place before the update that exceeded the number of tech slots after the update were removed from the vehicle and placed, uninstallable, in the vehicle inventory. GOG allows rolling back to a previous game version, which I have done, but the update also added regular autosaves so any save file played after the update but before rolling back to the previous version is unplayable.
