How saving works

Important technical matter first: there is only autosave in the game, you can't save it manually. While it saves often, it is not immediately obvious when it does; you can tell this happens when a small icon flashes at the bottom right of the screen. Fortunately, you can pass by an autosave point multiple times and it will keep activating. This is a strange design decision, though. Also, there is no autosave in the tutorial, so you have to play several minutes before you get to keep your progress. As far as typing games go this one is on par with Epistory, but with a more relaxed, fairytale visual style and narrative (or, at the very least, this is the case for as far as I have gone into the story so far). The gameplay consists at least in half of exploration and gathering knowledge. The other half are puzzles, tactical encounters with small packs of enemies, and grand battles that are resolved by frantic typing. If you like the typing games genre you will probably have fun with this title. If you are not sure, you might want to try Epistory first, which has similar mechanic and is right now at a discount.

Typing, typing, typing.

I bought this game together with a "moonlander" keyboard, and want to polish up my ten-finger-typing. I am used to typing "Eagle-Search-System", i.e. with index/middle finger claws while looking at the keyboard, and actually I can go quite fast with it. Now, thinking about ergonomics, this is a bad habit because I look up and down all the time. SO my main quest is to learn proper typing. With this setting, I went into "Nanotale". It is visually appealing if you like the comic-style. The story reminds me a bit of "Avatar", but it also has its own twists. You don't gain experience/levels by killing enemies, but by exploring and "documenting" plants and critter. I found there are too few side-quests, but the ones which there are are entertaining and diverse. Beasts are rather boring - no magic or distance attacks, and slow (I'll try re-play on higher difficulty level; I wish it had a "random character" mode for typing practice because words are repetitive). The main quest is rather linear, except maybe for the third act. I enjoyed the interaction of spell elements. The game is robust, not super immersive, but it's entertaining, if you like to follow. And for the typing: the regular "events" in which you are constrained to a battleground and fight waves of enemies what made the typing flow; those are the game changer. It's no use staring at the keyboard and screen in turn all the time. I had to focus on what is going on in battle. Especially the guardian fights and the Serpent were interesting, because they made use of the spell system. In the beginning, I was super clumsy with these events, but I quickly developed routine. And I got much better at typing last week, in big part due to this game! I used this to complement a rather dry typing trainer (fjfjffjjff) and must say it is a very welcome refreshment. So I can highly recommend it for learning to type. Or for distraction. The only downside is that it was too short. I'm afraid I'll have to move to Epistory.

Short and poorly thought

This one feels really short comparing to Epystory. Story doesn't developed well, chapters running through too fast. Magic system is actually limited and there no good reason to explore it. Most of the time you spend running from one point on map to another. Experience system looks completely parallel to main story development.

It's no epistory

I mean the story is pretty good up until the end, when it just sort of falls flat. You don't even get told what happens to the characters... I felt very letdown by the ending. Before that point it was a fun game... not perfect, but fun. It promotes typing and you can either let the automated manager determine your words per minute or set them at the main menu before you go in. I recommend setting it manually... otherwise you'll have the difficulty all over the place, assuming you are competent typer. Is it worth playing? Yes. Is it worth playing a second time? No. I played it mostly for the story and as I said above, the ending is unsatisfying.

It's not EpiStory, and that's fine.

I've not beaten Nanotale yet, but thus far, I like it quite a bit, possibly more than Epitory. I'm trying to brush up on my typing a bit, and the usual typing tutors don't quite cut it for me. No matter how much I need to work on my muscle memory, there's only so much "ferd fred fdre fedr jiuk juik jkiu jiuj" I can take (and that turns out to be about three and a half minutes on any given day) Epistory looked better than Nanotale, it had a better storyline and felt newer, but there was a lack of typing considering it is a typing game. Sometimes I felt like all I did was wander around solving movement puzzles (with weird controls) and desperately looking for things to type. In Nanotale, it feels like there's always something to type "at", even if it's not advancing the story. Using ESDF instead of WASD seemed weird at first, but I use WASD with my first 3 fingers, so shifting over one key to keep my fingers on home row made sense. Both games give interesting words to type out in sometimes challenging combinations, and they all fit in nicely with the story/enemy/friend very well. One frustration in both games is I have the habit of pressing space after each word (because that's how tying works, right?). This ends the "battle" and makes the upcoming words you need to type go away. You are then required to press space again to start battle, which is counterintuitive for typing practice.
