I am very happy that this game has been placed on the store. I bought as soon it released. That was sometime ago. I have not really been able to play though as I cannot use the d-pad it really ruins the experience.
Anyone who played this PC always used a D-pad, we grew up on Sega and Super Nintendo. There was no Joystick on Home consoles after Nintendo. D-pad was King.
Please fix this game and allow use of the d-pad for movement and use of moves and I will be happy to want this game at 5 stars. Otherwise. 3 stars seems more fitting. If you like Joystick movement. Buy this game. If you prefer D-pad. than stick with keyboard use or do not buy this game.
Nostalgically speaking, I always fondly remember the first 3 MK titles.
But even though I played MK4 very briefly back then, it's really an underappreciated gem.
It simplified the combo systems of MK3 and improved the responsiveness of the commands making the game as a whole much more dynamic.
It was a brilliant sequel, I had a lot of fun playing it again after so many years.
Definitely Recommend!
I was really happy when this was released on GOG. AMAZING and one game like Trilogy that I did NOT expect to see. In all fairness to the series this was a good entry into the series but by no means the best game out of the series. The addition of the weapons, the 3-D playing field, the new characters (which some were NOT good additions at all, more on that later) and last but not least the addition of both Quan-Chi and Shinnok which were AWESOME choices made this a damn decent addition to the arcade series in retrospect.
Onto details, while the weapons were a unique part of the game the weapons were not my favorite. I thought the weapons chosen could have been better but honestly it was a first so I cut them some slack about that. I really liked Sub-Zero's club, Scorpions Sword and Raiden's War Hammer. I thought the gameplay was improved and actually enjoyed the 2-D in 3-D player movement. I thought returning characters such as Lui Kang, Johnny Cage (YEAH!!!), Raiden, Scorpion and Sub-Zero fit nicely alongside the returning Fujin (from Mortal Kombat Mythologies - Sub-Zero) - I absolutely HATED Jarek and fought a wave of nausea and cringe everytime his ending played followed by gut busting laughter.
I really hope that GOG might perhaps make Mortal Kombat: Gold an official release as it wasd far improved graphically, through game play, enhanced fatalities and the addition of being able to play Goro was AWESOME! I had more fun with Mortal Kombat: Gold more than I did part 4 and really it was a far better more enhanced experience overall. Hopefully we get more Mortal Kombat surprises in the future and this coming out and then Mortal Kombat Trilogy releasing the same year was too much to take and I absolutely LOVE GOG. Thank you guys, I look forward to many more happy gaming days with GOG and Mortal Kombat 4 and Trilogy play times. This game still rocks and overall I LOVE the series. Thank you for releasing these games this year!
