Low Challenge, Extreme Charm, Bit Rushed
When they said Mondealy took a lot of ques from Undertale and Stardew Valley they definably weren't kidding, although they took more style than the gameplay. The music and overall aesthetic is stellar. Especially in the Forest District, could've been a hidden SV location complete with the music. It is a very beautiful game and there are benches and chairs everywhere to sit down and simply take in the atmosphere. The characters are fun, even the background characters. You will absolutely walk away with at least one favorite secondary character. The main cast is filled with unique people who are fun to talk to. Which is why the negatives hurt more than usual. They may be major annoyances but they are only annoyances, not dealbreakers. While the story of Mondealy is whole and done well there are certainly parts, especially towards the end, where it definitely felt rushed and underutilized. A certain character who is definitely important to the story barely appears overall and doesn't even show up for the big ending. The final chapters are also in a similar state, they don't come out of nowhere but they are here and gone way too fast. Basically some things desperately need to be more fleshed out. Also we barely spend any time in the town of Mondealy despite the game's name which is funny. There is basically no challenge in this game beyond a few extremely basic puzzles. This is not bad, not every game needs it, but if you are looking for some this is not the game for you. In fact the only actual way to fail is to deliberately get yourself run over by a car, which is the first thing I did after opening the game and it's hilarious. Mondealy is an Role-Playing Video Novel, if that was ever a thing. The game starts off with a storyteller reading a book to a traveler and a story is definitely what you'll be experiencing. Ah well. Fortunately the sheer charm makes up for a lot of its deficiencies. Story issues aside, Mondealy was a fun experience. 7/10 Corsic Plushes.
