I played this game when I was a kid, it never ceased to amaze me even nowadays when I'm trying to play it from time to time. I would so wish for this game to have more content, or the story to be continued.
One thing would be extremely awesome is if the game would be open source, this way each and every one of us could contribute to its development and expansion. Would love to see expanded campaigns in it as well.
But all in all, it has a very cool story, very good content, and a lot of action possibilities, with a very nice open-world-like. I appreciated this game, and always will
I see the price is now at $5.99. I must have got lucky and noticed it when it was on sale for $1.99. I can honestly say with no exaggeration, that I have never got more for 2 bucks in my life. This game is truly epic. Well worth $5.99 and then some.
As many have probably said, they just don't make them like this anymore. The main quest line is so long, it can take years of game time to complete. This just adds to the best part of the game IMO, The advancement of your party. I have never played a game were it felt more natural and satisfying to develop your party and watch them grow in power. If you're new to this series I highly recommend you take your time at party creation and roll 4 characters that you really like and will identify with. It makes the game even better than it already is. You will also want to include at least one Thief, Archer, or Ranger in your party or trapped chests in the early game will destroy you...not fun.
However, I can see the graphics being a deal breaker for some, especially younger gamers. I played this game back when it was first released, and the graphics were sub-par by 1999 standards. I remember this very clearly as I was also playing Everquest, Asheron's Call, Baulder's Gate and others at the time and I remember how awful it looked compared to it's contemporaries. The outdoor environments are especially dreadful, the draw distance will give you a very good laugh. It's the ONLY reason I can't give the game 5 out of 5.
All that said, these games are not about graphics, and the game shines in all other respects. A good imagination (seems harder to find one these days...) will help mitigate how much the poor graphics can detract from immersion at times.
As a final note, I am well over 100 hours in and the game has run almost flawlessly on my Win 7 machine. I had one CTD when starting a game of "Arcomage", but other than that ZERO problems. Just make sure you save outside the inn before playing "Arcomage" and you should be fine.
I absolutely loved this game. For its time it was the absolute best in much the same way Betrayal at Krondor was the best for its time.
Whilst this isn't a turn-based game, it plays very well and methodically. If you like Wizardry 8, you'll love this (even though Wizardry 8 is newer than this, I think this is a much better game).
Loved the music, loved the whole world you can explore. Loved the way that you can kill the dragon at the start of the game if you have enough patience and skill! :)
I just finished it , and like the 2 other i completed (3 and 6 each in release era) it was really fun and different from the usual rpg.Its an old-school computer games , and even if its a lot more player friendly than the early ones , i think its still aimed toward hardcore players.
The might and magic series always delivered great open world rpg wich were hard to master , but the power you aquired made you feel like real heroes.
One thing that is almost gone in actual rpg(gone after elder scrolls 3) is the amazing spell FLY !
Oh and i really miss 3DO , they made awesome games .
Unlike M&M X from the new crappy Ubisoft (who is trying to ruin the franchise with its crappy games), this is a good game and is quite loyal to the franchise.
I like the fluidity and how you improve your characters.
There are more stuff in this one than in the 6th. I think 3DO should have stayed focused on what caused them to have success instead of changing they recipes like they did with Heroes of M&M IV, a complete disaster and very crappy games (they tried to copy on the game called Disciple, which is heavy on your brain and once finished, you really don't want to play again unlike Heroes of M&M III).
Anyways, if you like the franchise or action-adventure games, buy this one, it's worth GOG's price.
