Metal Gear Solid is one of the best and perhaps one of the most influential game ever! I'm played through this game on my PS1 and PS3 more times than I can count and every playthrough is a blast.
It's stealth gameplay and mechanics was revolutionary for its time and while it has some goofy action anime moments, the political plot and theme sends a very powerful message. The characters are very interesting and well written, I could listen to the codecs for hours and hours.
How GOG managed to get this re-released here is amazing and totally unexpected. It's really is a must-play.
In 1999 Hideo Kojima created a timeless masterpiece. This is no ordinary action game, this is an intelligent, cleverly built, amazingly written gem of art that stand over generic action games with no added vaule.
It is not only about the fantastic atmosphere, amazing characters, superb writting and twists, voiceover or beautiful level design, but also it is about humanity, love and philosophy. Every spoken line here has its own purpose, no scene is a filler, every situation adds to the thrillness. The game tells a personal story about a man thrown into a pit of betrayal rather than a story about a man saving the world like a hero.
Metal Gear Solid is the only action game I gave a 10/10.

Since i don't trust Konami with keeping a good and more less functioning game in the store, i rushed to buy this version before it is too late. I got lucky when i bought MGS 2 and 3 HD after it got removed from microsoft store on the xbox 360 due to licensing issues of WW2 footage, and i still can't find MGS 2 pc port on GOG for sale.
The game itself is good enough, it reminds me of a emulated version since you can save without calling Mei Ling (which is illegal), load the saved game quicky and other advantages that comes with a minimally thought PC port and/or emulated version have. You can play without any additional patches, but, you better find one because i see a lot of people saying that you should play with fan patch and there might be a little bit of truth in that.
Really a good old game to have (before it is too late).

Já que eu não confio na Konami para manter na loja uma versão do jogo mais ou menos funcional, eu comprei esta versão do jogo antes que seja tarde. Eu tive sorte de comprar MGS 2 e 3 HD depois de ser retirado da loja da microsoft por conta de problemas de licença por causa de filmagens da segunda guerra, e eu ainda não acho o porte de MGS 2 para comprar na GOG.
O jogo em si é bom o suficiente, parece até que está emulando o jogo pois tem como salvar sem usar a Mei Ling (o que é ilegal), carregar o save rapidamente entre outras vantagens que uma versão de PC minimamente pensada e/ou emulador tem. Você pode jogar sem patches adicionais, mas é melhor achar um pois eu vejo muita gente dizendo que é para jogar com patch dos fãs e deve ter um fundo de verdade.
Realmente é um bom jogo antigo para obter (antes que seja tarde demais).
Best PS1 game, period. This is not a perfect port (reason why I gave it 4 stars) but still better than the poorly emulated version included in the Master Collection. For example, while the MC version has stretched widescreen, this one can be played in true widescreen if you install a patch for that. Works out of the box on Windows 10, controller works just fine too - it's possible to play and beat the game using keyboard, but I'd not recommend that.

Pro tip: if you hold the fire and crouch buttons, you can aim while running. This will make the first boss much easier.
GOG has put alot of work in. I previously played this on Windows 7 years and years ago, and even there, the FMV custcenes did not work but hey they got them working here! I would suggest tweaking your controller mapping, contrary to what gog says, mapping your triggers works fine, also don't forget to open up their directx config tool, you can set it to render the game @ 4K with 8X MSAA, it's really nice.
