Good First Impressions

As a new gamer (using a laptop) I am enjoying building the aquarium. I really like there is no rush with the game and you can pause while you work out where to move your tanks etc. Also love the fact it's not all about resource management and staff (once assigned) just get on with everything. I am slightly disappointed with the visuals especially the ugly heaters and filters than need to be alongside each tank - far better if these could be placed within tanks and more visually pleasing. It would also be nice to have 'cards' with images of the real fish (I'm thinking like Wingspan which is visually stunning). With the mousepad it is easy to select but not so easy to deselect objects. Overall a great stress free game with plenty of creativity and there's more for me to discover as a progress through the difficulty levels - plus there's expansion packs available. Definitely one for those who want enjoyable easy going games.

Addictive

Megaquarium is very simple compared to other animal management sims, but for some reason it is still enjoyable to play. It has just enough difficulty to keep you on your toes in the campaign and it's very fun just watching the fish exist in your little box you've made for them. (I don't think fish care about decoration but I sure do) It's a very relaxing and somewhat easy-going management sim that I think anyone can enjoy.

A delightful experience that's 90% there

Megaquarium is just a few details short of being my new favourite "theme" management sim. The theme is plenty of fun and there's a surprising amount of depth in balancing the ecosystems of your tanks. The number of ways that your various creatures demand to be served is varied and extensive. I only wish that it was a bit easier to see what fish you have in what tanks, and what their needs and restrictions are. The designers are walking a fine line here, as puzzling out these combinations is part of what makes the game exciting--you don't want the UI to simply give it all away. But the presentation of information seems a bit too far on the murky side for my tastes. It doesn't help that, when playing on my laptop, the font is tiny and very difficult to read... I couldn't find a setting to rectify that issue, although maybe I'm just blind? The graphics overall are cute, professional and engaging. I'm willing to bet that after an update or two this game will stand up next to all-time classics like Theme Hospital and RollerCoaster Tycoon!

Fantastic Fishy Fun

I'm a big fan of zoo building games and Megaquarium did not disappoint. Mechanically simple at first, you'll unlock more advanced equipment and more demanding types of fish as you keep expanding your aquarium with more tanks and visitor facilities. The main fun here is trying to fit different types of fish in one tank while keeping it as efficient as possible in terms of space and staff accessibility. This gets progressively harder as many of the later animals have very specific needs that don't overlap with most other fish, thus creating interesting puzzles to solve. The game has a campaign mode that serves as a tutorial while still providing a decent challenge, and a sandbox mode that allows you to change various settings to provide an even greater challenge while building your own aquarium from scratch. I've sunk in over 100 hours into this game and still keep coming back for more. It's highly addictive and satisfying to play.

Fun and relaxing management game

I don't think it's a AMAZING game, but it's fun and chill. There's a bunch of little things that bug me - the big headed character models, the lack of any kind of ceiling in first person mode, the lack of customization with regards to themes or aesthetics, that king of thing - but the major things are all good. A bit simpler than something like Roller Coaster Tycoon or Theme Hospital, but still a lot of fun in the same vein. Manage your aquarium, set up your fish tanks so that they don't eat each other, hire enough staff to feed everyone, and you're golden. It's pretty easy to get the basic feel for how to run things and from there, it's just a laid back management sim with some fish. Game runs well, interface is fine, no technical issues. It's probably not going to be your game of the year, but it's a fun experience and I'd efinitely say it's worth what it costs.
