The 4x that ruins other 4x games.

Playing other 4x games and in general strategy games, after playing this game, feels like a limited experience, only saved by modern UI and graphics. This game has so much to do, epsecially the Caster of Magic for Windows version. It's really worth playing: If you're patient enough to learn. No hand-holding here like in Civ games, it will beat you and take your lunch money, until you get better. And the moment you get better, it becomes marvelous.

One of the best strategy games ever made

A very large array of units and spells Random new words each time Large possibility in term of starting situation (magic, abilities, different typology of opponent) VERY challenging IAs on the most difficult levels All of this makes the game still very interesting even after several plays.

Granddaddy of Fantasy Turn-based

Master of Magic Classic may be old, and still 90's ugly, but the bugs are fixed, it can run in a window, and it can handle things the original game never could (like having close to a dozen players). Best of all, it's been rebalanced and expanded in ways that weren't possible just from modding the hex code (as was done in Caster of Magic). As for Master of Magic itself, what can I say that hasn't already been said? Well, quite a bit actually - The docs for Caster of Magic came with extensive behind-the-scenes information on why changes were made, but unfortunately that isn't present in the docs for the latest version. I can't be the only person who read and enjoyed all that, can I? Anyway, in sum, this is a more user-friendly update for a labor of love that turned a glitchy old classic into a formidably deep, challenging, and balanced fantasy TBS (Turn-Based Strategy) game that I still enjoy today.
