Outstanding remake!! But...
I finished the original Mafia just before playing this. And i can say....a brilliant remake done! Talking about the obvious first- the graphics are TOP NOTCH! Amazing! The city of Lost Heaven is beautifully remade. Fantastic facial animations, character models, those VINTAGE CARS! Just wow to look at everything. Gameplay sees the huge change as well. Guns play great as compared to original. Everything is modern and "pick n play" of these days....unlike the original where controls are all messed up and others things. Coming to the story and missions....this is the main point of discussion. Missions are 90% same as original, some changes here and there. All re-written dialogues. The classic feels a better experience of the story and characters than DE. That has tone and essense which the DE lacks. Like, I didn't like how they did the character of Paulie at all! Also....almost bad, forced, cringey voice acting for the most part. Paulie....just why did they make him that much goofy? Yes, he was the funny of the bunch...but this much? Tommy...the original VA isn't that great, lacks enthusiasm but certainly feels connected. DE's Tommy always sounded like he has acidity and is waiting to burp. Very forced voice! This took all away from the seriousness of the orignal Mafia. You look at the ending monologue of Tommy. A huge difference between DE and original. The original hit me right in the soul- great writing. There was nothing like that in DE. But in the end...if you are playing Mafia for the first time and DE first....you won't regret it. The story is great. You will get a movie-like experience. Though i will highly suggest you to play the original as well (it has its own flaws though). 4/5 👍
