Good with some issues

This was a good singleplayer experience, and I'm glad I got to give it a go since I didn't get to play when the game was originally released. At first I encountered some graphical oddities but those were sorted out after tweaking the settings a bit. One issue that was recurring throughout my play through was upon booting up the game. My rig isn't new but it's pretty decent. Starting the game could take up to 5 minutes and it would constantly reset my resolution and fullscreen settings. Aside from the technical issues I did enjoy the game and story. Being able to skip some of the drive from point A to point B segments was amazing. Being forced to walk in a lot of situations was not. Overall I'd recommend it if you're into these sorts of titles or never got the chance to play the game upon release like myself.

The game is a masterclass in storytelling, atmosphere, and cinematic presentation. From the very first cutscene, it’s clear that this remake was crafted with reverence for the original. The streets of 1930s Lost Heaven pulse with life, soaked in noir charm, rain-slicked pavements, and a moody jazz score that transports you back in time. The narrative, anchored by Tommy Angelo’s conflicted morality, unfolds with compelling pace and emotional depth, making this more than just a mobster shoot-'em-up. Gameplay-wise, the developers nailed the driving mechanics and gunplay with a refreshing old-school edge—no excessive hand-holding or overblown side quests, just focused, gritty missions. Visually, it’s stunning. The attention to detail in the city’s architecture and character animations rivals that of modern AAA titles. Voice acting is top-tier, breathing new life into every scene. But… then there’s the launch issue. For all its polish and finesse, it’s deeply frustrating that the game often fails to launch on the first try. A game this immersive should not greet players with technical hiccups at the very start. You sit down, eager to step into the fedora of a 1930s gangster—and instead, you get a silent, frozen stare from your desktop. Sometimes it takes two, even three attempts to get it going. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it’s disappointing, especially for a game this refined in every other aspect. Verdict: Mafia: Definitive Edition is an exceptional remake that pays homage to the original while elevating it for a new generation. It’s just a shame it occasionally needs a nudge to get the engine started. Fix that, and you’ve got a nearly flawless experience. ⭐ Rating: 8.5/10 ("Start it twice, play it for hours.")

ABSOLUTE CINEMA

I haven't played a game like this in awhile. To me, this is an instant hit. It was thrilling, dramatic, and absolutely made me emotional. No spoilers. Play the damn game, Don's orders.
