Originally released in 1997 as Little Big Adventure 2 or Twinsen's Odyssey, Twinsen’s Little Big Adventure 2 Classic is a memorable action-adventure game that stole many players’ hearts with its charm, quirkyness and humour.
After saving the planet, Twinsen and Zoé live a happy and peaceful life on Citadel Island when new trouble arises. Aliens from the planet Zeelich land on Twinsun and strange things start to happen. Who are these Esmers? Are they friends or foes? Twinsen needs to put on his Ancestral Tunic once again and investigate. With the help of his friend Jeróme Baldino and fiancée Zoé, he needs to become a wizard, level up his magic, fly into space and uncover ancient mysteries that threaten both Twinsun and Zeelich!

I must have had a lot more patience when this game first came out. I remember loving it so I had to get it from gog. Then I remembered just how annoying the combat is. Having something hitting you while you just move backwards stunned is so frustrating. I also forgot just how bad the voice acting is in this game. But man is the soundtrack amazing. Its still to this day one of my favourite game soundtracks.
I will try to write a honest review here, which is quite hard as LBA 2 is one of *the* things from my childhood, and thus I'm far from being objective.
Little Big Adventure 2 is a 3D action-adventure game, a late MS-DOS one, and this probably will make many people cautious, rightfully so. The story is a big element here, and while simple (save the world, o Great Hero!), it's fitted into colorful world with a lot of characters. You will visit many locations, talk to many people and fight, jump, collect and solve puzzles a lot through it.
Now let's talk about the bad stuff, mainly - the controls. I'll put it gently - if you can't stand how the characters in Alone in the Dark series move via keyboard, LBA 2 is definitely not for you. The so-hated tank controls are here and there is no way to change it. Also, the camera will sometimes be your enemy, and even semi-manual (sorta) way of placing it behind hero won't help you.
Still on the subject of controls, LBA 2 uses the movement modes, so there is Normal (slowly walking and using stuff), Sporty (running and jumping), Aggresive (explains itself) and Discreet (sneaking and acting quietly). You will need to know each of them and all of the quirks, and how to quickly change them, and how to e.g. use objects while in Sporty (there's a dedicated key for it).
LBA2 is quite hard and you'll need to make a lot of fetching and money collecting, truly in 90's style. Combat is purely arcade, with health and mana points, various weapons and spells, magic levels (no worry - no RPG like "levels", it's all linear and story-related).
The graphics took a hit and after all the years, the unshaded, gourad-shaded polygons are looking archaic. The 2D locations, on the other hand, look quite nice, if bare.
Music and sounds are excellent. The OST itself is worth the price, wonderful instrumental themes which sound a litlle bit like Vollenweider's mastepieces, just a little...
So, there. I love this game to death, but many people don't, and I understand it. It's "coup de coeur" game - you may fall in love instantly in it, or never "get it". Same goes for Beyond Good & Evil...
I played this game when I was child. My family had gotten our first windows based computer (Win95) and we received this game with our sound card (something like that). The game is long, beautiful, and imaginative. This is the first game that I have bought at full price on GOG and it is well worth it.
My primary criticism of the game is the controls. Other users will probably mention this is their reviews and I generally agree with them. The graphics, music, sound, and voice acting are great. The gameplay mechanics also work very well. The controls are the only issue.
Do yourself a favor, get this game. When I saw LBA on GOG last week, I hoped that they would get this one and they did.
Twinsen's Odyssey is still one of my favourite games of all time, and I still dig it out and play it every few years, smiling all the way. The game is a joy to play from start to finish, from the unique world and characters, to the whimsical humour throughout.
This game takes Little Big Adventure - itself an excellent game in its own right - and addresses all the niggling issues that may have turned people off the previous title. Sporty mode no longer kills you (cue rage-quit) when you run into walls. There are now areas of towns where you can actually just wander around and enjoy the world without forever being in fear of a soldier or a robo-elephant. The graphics and music are improved. And you now have a car to roam around in, a dino-fly to fly, and a host of new locations and planets to explore.
I actually still think graphically etc it stacks up well also so those of you wondering if you can cope with an older style game, have a look at the screenshots and give it a go. It's very accessible.
I have been waiting for this release since joining GOG and am overjoyed it's here with us now. For $6 this is an absolute must-buy for any gamer.
If not the best. I played the demo first from a PC Gamer disc and that was it. I was 100% hooked. I had to wait until christmas though and yes, I got the game. Still have it in the original big box in pretty good shape. I dig it out from time to time to just look at it and I get all warm inside. So many good moments in this game.
An advice for anyone that hasn't played this game yet is to just play it without a guide and solve all the puzzles on your own. I played the first half-ish without a guide and the last half with a guide and even though it was mindblowing throughout, it was more satisfying before I used the guide.
