This game is not good. The humour is worse than before, the puzzles are basically copied from Monkey Island series (I mean come on, you can't call these "nods" anymore when there are so many) and the game mechanics have not improved one bit.
There really is nothing to see here (just search those Instacrap clips online) and playing this game is just a waste of money and time.
2 stars is only for Yanmei, a character that is well written to work with Larry.
I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of CrazyBunch's reboot of the venerable Leisure Suit Larry series, and they continue their good work here.
This game serves as a direct sequel to 'Wet Dreams May Come,' which I quite liked. Most LSL games end with a 'true love' angle, which is then blown to bits when the next game starts as an excuse for Larry to be single again. Here, Larry continues to chase after the girl of his latest dreams, Faith, while sleeping with a bunch of other women in the meantime because swingers gonna swing.
The first CrazyBunch game was heavily inspired by the original Leisure Suit Larry, and this one, fittingly, draws a lot of inspiration from LSL2, including the tropical setting and various other touches. It keeps the bright colors and fun energy the first game had, but adds a number of terrific quality-of-life features including a much-needed 'show me all the interactables' button (R.I.P. pixel hunting) and the ability to double-click to move between areas faster. Unfortunately, it also continues the tradition of spamming nearly EVERY screen with phallic and/or yonic objects, a joke that gets old real quick. Sometimes less is more.
But the writing is fairly sharp otherwise, and the story, while deeply silly, does have a surprising amount of heart. The puzzle difficulty is also on the lower side by adventure game standards, making it accessible to anyone not put off by typical Larry shenanigans like casual sex, pig abuse, off-color remarks, bird abuse, nerd abuse, and wanton mayhem with a stolen helicopter.
One thing the game could've used was a final coat of polish, though. Some VA lines are in the wrong place and the spelling can sometimes be off. My favorite error(?) was when someone forgot to hold shift and a line ended with !!111, and the VA read out the number as written and nobody caught it. Amazing.
Still, this game was a nice bit of breezy fun and it's nice to see Larry alive and well.
I don't understand, it simply doesn't deserve 5*. I wonder how many reached the botched final part.
I do love the graphics. The island scenery, which you will see the most, is very nice. There are some lovely girls, but almost no animation, let alone face closeups. The few "reward" animations are either useless (Larry swinging over ravine...) or pale in comparison to your average animated fanart, plus they never show any nudity, even during those 3-4 tiny sex scenes.
The voice acting is mostly great, but some lines have misplaced stress and other minor issues (other than bugs, see below). Dialogue content is a mixed bag. Pi and Larry are definitely the best characters, but the bar isn't set too high here. The main female villain is kinda fun, the main male villain is extremely cringeworthy (based on Gangnam Style's PSY...)
The game starts with a boring tutorial and a "sensitivity lecture" with a reminder that "gender is diverse", then there's a pretty decent adventuring section, which later degrades into running back and forth while doing strange errands for random people and esoteric reasons. Some task chains lack any conclusion whatsoever. Unusable items, characters and locations never disappear, so you check them over and over, because you never know what is really useful and what's clutter.
The final part is artificially inflated by ~2-3 hours using ~15 minutes of content (but they still had time to shoehorn another forced gay scene), and the ending leaves a very nasty aftertaste. It's supposedly emotional, but feels wrong, unfinished, made with recycled assets.
There are also many technical issues: crashes, glitching through jail bars, premature dialogues, voices not matching text, unskippable "death sequences", loading times when checking some inventory items, etc.
Buy it on sale only, the devs are gone anyway, and use a walkthrough when bored, your hard work won't be rewarded. Oh and, there's a nude mod on ModDB, makes the game slightly better.
This is a direct continuation to Wet Dreams Dont Dry. So I suggest starting with that and finishing with this.
I like how Larry scores quite well with the chicks in this game. Much action. And everyone and everything he meets seems to be kinky in some way. I guess it goes with the franchise.
There is plenty of running around and as usual I had the walkthrough available when getting stuck. Some of the solutions are a bit strange, but I guess thats what a walkthrough is for. Nicely they also tune some of the most annoying parts such as the maze parts and allow to skip it after too much time wasted.
The ending is a bit of a bore though. Larry should score with the chicks, not become some puppet for a "modern strong woman". Well, I like how he is portrayed as a horny and a bit simple but well meaning guy just always out to get some. Why not.
The jokes and characters are mostly fine. Seems quite Larry-style. His smartphone app AI trying to brainwash him into a modern stereotype of a woke character but failing in the end due to Larry being Larry but in a nice way works. Yet in the end maybe they realize he is fine as he is.
Graphics are the same style and quality as previous one, which is good set for this game. I found the plot and interactions slightly better than the previous one. Maybe the ending a bit less but still. Again, it is good on a decent sale for some light-hearted point-and-clicking.
