Legacy of Kain™ Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered is now available for
pre-order! Grab it now and experience the epic conflict of Kain and Raziel in original form or with remastered graphics.
Soul Reaver 2 picks up where Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver left off, with Raziel having just plunged through the Chronoplast time portal in his relentless pursuit of Kain. Over the course of his quest for revenge, Raziel must unearth the mysteries of Nosgoth’s ancient races, expose the machinations behind the corruption of the Pillars, and the vampire genocide. Throughout the game, Raziel acquires numerous new abilities, weapon enhancements, and spells, all of which are critical to the completion of his epic adventure.
Soul Reaver is a third-person combat adventure filled with devious puzzles and kick-ass combat. Fly, swim, jump, and even travel from the material world to the spectral realm to overcome obstacles and conquer your enemies. With over 40 abilities to choose from, no two fights will ever be the same.
Are you ready to bring an end to the Legacy of Kain?
Acquire new and improved Soul Reaver weapon enhancements, physical abilities, and relics to interact with the environment and unlock the dark secrets of Nosgoth.
Play through a gorgeous gothic realm of highly detailed architecture and environments, with an appropriately baroque plot as well.
Devour the souls of new enemies including vampire hunters, Sarafan warrior-priests, and extra-dimensional demons.
I like these type of games like this one, except for the fact there is no remote control ability but the keyboard, which I can't stand to use due to the fact that most games that only use the keyboard are all different. Plus I don't want to constantly jump from key to key just to make a move...RIDICULOUS...Suggestion is to install the ability to use the KEYBOARD or an actual remote control, like an xbox controller.
I loved SR1 for dc, and played defiance for ps2, but never finished this, so when it went on sale I snatched it up. I have been screwing around with getting this to work with joy2key as xpadder free no longer works on win10. Controls are awful, cutscenes are sped up 2x with voices like hamster squeaks. Game just crashed. Can I get a refund? waste of money!
I remembered this game as the best entry in the series. While SR1 is better what I remembered, this is a little disappointment now.
The story and voice acting are both excellent, maybe the best I've met so far. Since I have played this when it came out I have remembered the plot twists and could focus on other things,
For example, the annoying save system. When I was in my teens it was not a big problem that I could not save anywhere - now it definetly is.
It surprised me that I could not use my gamepad, which is interesting because I had no such problems with SR1 (I mean the Gog version) and this game is not meant to be played with mouse and keyboard. Not impossible, but not as enjoyable.
The puzzles are better then they were in SR1 but they are still kind of meh. The game is also a little bit short.
You will either love this game or hate it, but you have to try it first to decide it.
As with SR1 this sequel was also a shockingly bad console port which was likely just thrown over to the PC to make extra $$ with minimal consideration of the architecture. It has been moderately patched to play on modern machines but still contains the basic control flaws of SR1 which is such a shame for so unique a game. I wont go over the positive aspects of the game because plenty of other reviewers have stated them elegantly enough before me but I would like to address some of the technical aspects.
First of all some folks but not others, seem to have problems with the video and Audio and I strongly believe this is down to idiosyncrasies of their GPU’s, Operating Systems, Device Drivers and other hardware, because all of the people downloading this game receive the same software but they don’t all have trouble. PC’s are individual unlike consoles which are all just clones of each other. I have dual operating systems and I downloaded SR2 into Fedora Linux with WINE installed, then ran the game normally from the desktop link and it ran first try without any trouble with the one exception of the intro cut scene with Raziel and Kain running in a lower resolution which when finished changed to my full screen high resolution for the next cut scene with Raziel and Mobeus.
The Mouse setting offered doesn’t work as usual with Soul Reaver and your best bet is to use the solitary keyboard setup and map it to your own preferences. All of my video settings were highest available and I had no need to touch the Gamma correct at all. I still have the original T.L.O.K.
series on disks from when they first came out erm… a few years ago and I really enjoyed playing them through again on modern equipment. For the price this series is being offered at by GOG what else could you buy that could give you so much value even if you just keep them as collectors items to lord it over your kids or grandkids with your keyboard skills. :) 5 of 5 from me.
