Haven't had a complete playthrough, but so far the plot and characters are interesting but can be difficult to keep track of.
Also the UI can be a little difficult to get the hang of at first but gets a little easier as you move forward.
Overall, very good storyline and would definitely reccomend it.
One of my favorite all time adventures. unique stylistic design , great story, environment. Having worked with the people who designed it, I can attest to the intelligence that went in to creating it. Highly recommended
I missed this game when in first came out, but always wanted to play it. Well, thanks to GOG I have, and it is amazing.
The fact that I can be floored by a game and excited about its story and gameplay 14 years after it came out speaks to what a masterpiece of gaming the Last Express truly is.
The voice acting is incredible, the best I've heard in a long time, and that includes modern games. The actors and actresses give subtle and nuanced performances that complement the rotoscoped animation and story perfectly, helping to immerse you in the world of the game.
You can't think of the characters as NPCs, it is just impossible. They have conversations, realistic expressions and responses and their own agenda and interests outside of the player.
The animation is a little choppy and not as smooth as we have come to expect in modern games, but they had to fit enormous amounts of it on a CD for a DOS game, and it still holds up today, making you feel as if you really are on the Orient Express with a group of people.
The highest compliment I can pay this game is that I wish developers were still making titles this intelligent and innovative.
If you've ever subscribed to the theory that games can be art, you owe it to yourself to play this game. It stands as a masterwork for other games to aspire to.
Even if you hate adventure games this is one of those unique experiences that rarely come's along. Most everybody owes it to themselves to pick this up.
