Another cigarette tumbles into the abyss. The sun is slowly coming up,
glistening in the sea of buildings below.
I look up at the stars one last time before they disappear.
They don't provide any guidance. They don't give a f*ck.
I have to make this decision on my own, and very soon. Problem is, I don't know how.
I've never been able to figure out why I do what I do. Not really.
No more time to think. I have to go.
Here’s the deal
You are Neil Conrad, CDI agent. Awoken by the news of a murder, you rush into a case that will soon turn your life and the whole solar system upside down. Ask questions, collect evidence, and put the pieces together until the ugly truth reveals itself... or not.
No takebacks
The story branches and ends based on your actions. There's no going back. Sure, you can rush your way to the end – if you don't mind paying the price. Play your cards right, and you might make it out alive.
How far will you go?
Some questions don't have a right answer. Will you sell out a friend to protect your family? Will you endanger a loved one in exchange for public safety? Will you keep the peace or reveal the horrible, world-shattering truth?
Hungry for Point & Click Adventure?
While the classics were great in their time, Lacuna does away with the baggage of many adventure game tropes:
Pointing & clicking Platformer movement controls (WASD / controller)
Selecting all dialog options one by one anyway Non-repeating conversations and choices
Inventory management and counter-intuitive puzzles Immersive, story-driven mysteries
Pixel hunting Optional outlines on anything interactable
Story grinds to a halt at every puzzle can always be driven forward
"x will remember this" Real choices and multiple endings

为什么 GOG 版不支持简体中文和繁体中文?更新日志里明明写着添加了繁体中文支持啊!请更新中文支持!
Why doesn't the GOG version support Simplified and Traditional Chinese, even though the update log clearly states that Traditional Chinese support has been added? Please update the Chinese support!
TLDR: A detective game with a visual novel feel, 3 stars but ONLY if you use a controller.
WHY 2 STARS, THEN? This game only mentions its controller support when it detects it; otherwise it only shows keyboard controls everywhere. Since I hadn't connected my controller at launch, my first two runs where with the keyboard, and while I obviously liked the game, my play and enjoyment suffered a lot. I considered giving it 3 stars anyway, but given the dev's hubris in listing the classics' (real) shortcomings in his game blurb, I can't ignore the blunder of not mentioning controller support in-game just because it wasn't connected.
THE GOOD
Actual detective mistery (not a puzzle collection) where your deductions and behaviour make a difference. You only get one shot at conversations. Make the wrong conclusion, say the wrong word, and you'll find yourself catching up with the action -the story will progress anyway, but with less options and locations for you.
Deductions are made by answering brief multiple option questionnaires. Works fine, is lightweight, and since the answers don't change across runs it helps replayability. Autosave only -no going back, unless you start a new run.
Enough text and story for a visual novel; it kinda is one. If you like visual novels you'll like this -there are many nuances to notice and variations to explore, with multiple endings. A run takes a few hours.
THE BAD:
Controls. Running is not the default: you must hold Shift or Right Trigger. Controls can't be configured and (subjectively) aren't intuitive nor comfortable. Keyboard controls just get in the way of immersion.
Secondary character portraits all look very similar.
A gimmicky "AR mode" -a secondary interaction mode used when your character "inspects" his surroundings. Inconsistent and somewhat gratuitous.
I CAN RECOMMEND THIS for people who like story, detective work (not puzzles!) and visual novels, but PLEASE make sure your controller is connected.
So the game looked cool and I went to check out their website to see what sort of a team they were as I like supporting small developers. I found this prominently featured on their website: "We value a diversity of opinions and positions as much as any other type of diversity. However, some 'opinions' are dumb and wrong, and bigots don't have a place at DigiTales."
Translation: No one to the right of Karl Marx is allowed to work here.
If they actually meant the real meaning of the word bigot: "persons who are intolerant of different opinons, especially regarding religion" that would be great.
But we all know that when they say bigot, they are not concerned about making Christians feel welcome there, what they really mean is that anyone who holds views different from their "progressive" views are not welcome ... ironically enough, making them actual bigots. I have experienced this type of work environment enough to know that I do not want to support it financially. We have enough of these "PC babies" working in the gaming industry pushing out the real talent, we don't need yet another team full of them.
Well, as the "author" himself has stated, everything is wrong with this pixelated story.
Why would I need platforming WASD controls in my adventure?
Why would I need a GAME with tons of story and not actual gameplay at all?
You can easily see that the "developer" of this thing has a big grudge against the old diamonds.
"While the classics were great in their time". Guess what snob, they are called classics for a reason, they are still great in this current day and age, unlike your pathetic and pretentious pixelated story that no one will remember after a month, at most.
All of the descriptions are all about story, story, muh immersionn, story, story, muh immersionn story, story!
Hey dude? Honestly, why won't you give it a rest and go write a novel or some comic book and let the adventure gaming to other, actually talented people?
Even the pixel art has nothing special, very basic stuff that will remind you tons of other platform games. The art direction is non-existent.
Everyone is a "pixel artist" nowadays. A casual walk on Twitter and you can find 10.000 pixel artists praising one another of how gud they are!
Guess what primadonnas! The adventure genre needs more coders. Coders who are creative, have a clear vision and know what they are doing.
To top all of this, take the icing on the cake, this pixelated thing needs W10 to run!!!LOL! What a joke, what a lovely joke.
Instant black list for these "developers".
