I've honestly never had this problem with a GOG game before, even ones where people complained of this. But I can't get this game to start. Tried running as admin, in various compatibility modes, nada. Looked for help here and elsewhere, nada. Just won't launch.
A friend had the DVD for this game. It looked like it could have been fun to play except for all the glitches. If one does not have EXACTLY the right hardware/software/drivers it will not run. His either wouldn't load, wouldn't run, would run for a few minutes and then lock up his computer, or just crash his system entirely. I actaully saw it work for almost 30 minutes (one time) and it was very nice... until the system locked up again.
When I saw it here on GOG, i bought it right away. After all GOG takes games that won't run on new systems and makes them work... Right?
WRONG! Even after jumping through all kinds of system adjustment hoops and downloading an OLD version of direct x - It still won't run. Whoever wrote this program (I actually read somewhere that it was developed in Russia.) did a great job on everything except for making it too inflexable in its operating requirements.
Sigh!
Hello, the game may be great, but it is the only game I have had installation problems with, problems with graphics, problems with virus checker, and have found many examples all over the web with compatibility issues.
Never had problems with other downloaded games.
First of all, the save game function doesn't work properly (saved games are simply not there upon reopening the game).
Secondly, the errands (quests) are, for the most part (in my opinion, of course) uninteresting.
Weird and stupid design flaws like the lack of a world map, especially when travelling by boat, make locations nearly impossible to find, and looking for them a frustrating waste of time. Also, why, if you open a grave that has undead troops in it, but you have no space in your inventory for them, are they then never available again? That makes zero sense.
Once you get the ability to assess an enemy army, it really emphasises what a numbers game the battles are. Of course all computer games are numbers games, but the art of drawing a veil across the mechanics is really missing here.
I really regretted having bought this game.
I'm running Windows 11 on a 13th Gen i7 with a Radeon 6800XT and it consistently crashes. I honestly can't give a review on gameplay since I can't really play the game.
