Combat is beyond frustating when there even 2 eneimies at once. However you can get OP quick then combat is too easy and boring. There are also those lame combos that never work.
If you are a whiner you might not like this game. Sissy players who don't remember hardcore game times which were actually better will have too many complaints to ever enjoy such masterpiece as KCD is. They will complain about 0,1% of the game being bugged and still not patched at the release date. They will complain about being completely unskilled at the beginning. They will whine that combat is ridiculously hard if you've never invested actual effort to learn the techniques like in real life. They will complain that saving is not just granted anytime in unlimited fashion and you have to actually be vary and not lazy save scum. They will brag about this and that probably all that it is way too realistic and not too gamy. They will probably miss all the unique details you've never seen in any game before. They will not appreciate extremely developed dialogues written in the most believable style I've ever encountered in a game (wait I just remembered Fallout 2). They will not make it deep enough to be completely devoured by the world's beauty and realistic graphical style almost matching the nature of Vanishing of Ethan Carter. They will not enjoy that cliche simplified game mechanics have been replaced by more complex and more difficult real-life rewarding mechanics. Well you got the point already. One detail annoyed me heavily though. The voiceover is way too often quite different in meaning compared to written text in original Czech. It is the biggest shame and huge middle finger raised to Czech and Slovak players this game "could not afford" decent voiceover from among-the-best dubbers in Europe... surprisingly from the same country where this game is situated AND developed. Witcher 3 stays proud. I am Slovak and I would actually buy the game if not for the middle finger. And I WILL buy it if the middle finger is replaced by handshake from the devs.
This is my first time ever writing a review, that's how much the game pissed me off.
I really gave it a chance, put 30 hours in it. But it's so irritating I can't handle it anymore.
The story is nice and there are some interesting mechanics, but that's about it when it comes to what is cool about the game. Loading screens freeze up all the time (yes, I know I can get around it by alt-tabbing for a few moments and then coming back - thing is, I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DO IT). Quest markers disappear or show up in the wrong places.
And realism in the game? Don't make me laugh. The game is realistic only in places where it's a pain in the ass for the user. In other places?
Yeah, sure the local drunk can wipe the floor with the young blacksmith's apprentice who should be stronger and faster than him. Oh, no, horses CAN'T swim (hint - they really can). While you're saying that, Henry can't swim either (a kind who was raised in a village by the river can't swim? RIGHT). And of cours he can't even learn to swim, because why would he? Oh, and anything that comes up to his chest is automatically labeled as "too deep". And so on, and so on, and so on.
I really wanted to like this game. I REALLY did. I saw the past reviews and YT videos and hoped to fall in love. But these bugs inbalances in a game that had 5 to have them fixed? Nuh-uh.
If your product is not intended for casual players then please label it accordingly. The limitations to saving the game are bothersome for no obvious gain. If people want to "cheat" then I'm sure they got mods and save game editors available.
(This game has been designed by extremely skilled professionals. This is probably the best rpg since Skyrim.)
People that are interested in this game need to watch some videos detailing the combat. I had seen gameplay videos but I did not fully understand how atrocious the combat in this game was until I played it. The key points:
-Your camera locks onto your enemy. You can move it off by moving your mouse very far very quickly, but you are intended to use the keyboard to swap targets. There is no free targeting in the game.
-The mouse is used not to move the camera, it is used to decide where to strike enemies - the intention being that you attempt to strike at vulnerable spots and try to chain "combos" (but you won't succeed at this because of the AI's excellent blocking ability).
-When you are swung at you can block or dodge during a brief window. This will consume stamina. If you block at the exact moment their weapon hits you, then you parry and automatically strike back.
-Getting hit, swinging, blocking, doing anything but parrying costs stamina. When your stamina is depleted, enemy attacks do damage to your health.
-If you get to close to an enemy they will grab you.
-The camera lurches wildly during all of this to be immersive.
I hate this combat. The people that like it praise it for its realism, but I find it incredibly clunky, feeling as if it was never intended to be played by a mouse and keyboard. Because of its clunky design, fighting multiple people is just impossible. Combat is an enormous part of the gameplay, and I do not think I will ever see another game with a combat system as poorly designed as this one.
Please if you are considering this game, learn from my mistake and watch as many videos explaining the combat as you can. I did not realize exactly how the system worked, and now I have a game that I hate.
