I played the game as a kid, loved the themes, the concept, the animation, the aesthetic, even the gameplay, but sadly, for one reason or another, the 6 year old me couldn't get into it.
Principally because the levels were very confusing at the time, even if now they're incredibly "clear".
I never debated, even with myself, whether this game was good, or not, I just didn't enjoy it, even if I wanted to.
So now that the game has gotten re-released in this digital platform, and given I couldn't find the original disc I've had, I decided to give it a go.
I was concerned however about two things:
1.- Has it aged well, and does the praise that it gets doesn't come simply from nostalgia?
2.- Aged well, or not, Will it be easy enough for a person like me?
Turns out the game hasn't only aged incredibly well, the game also has multiple difficulty options, paired with the incredible jj2+ mod that is included in "Goodies & Extras" in GOG installation choices, which increases the resolution support, as well as it fixes bugs, enables multiplayer, (something which I didn't even knew this game had) and also supports "xinput" controllers such as my wireless Xbox 360 one, this makes it not only an incredible option for people to obtain the game, it is the best one that is available to download for now.
Everything ranging from the level design, whether it is the aesthetic, the platforming, enemy placement, secrets, etc...
It's handled with simplicity, but with care as well, and game just manages to "ooze" style from every which way direction you decided to settle your mind to.
Even the level selection has multiple images that go hand, in hand with some of the levels themes.
It is always varied, and it always remains fresh.
Imagine something like Mario, combined with Sonic, combined with some of the humor from cartoons from the 90's, paired with guns, and weapons, and you'll get a general idea of what this game is about.
It is a game that remains timeless, that's all.
