By finishing one, you felt like you have really accomplished something. Those were the times where games didn’t lead you by hand with a big, red dot on your minimap or a huge arrow above your head. Many have failed in completing those games without help from a guide or a walkthrough, but those who accomplished this quest can be proud of it because here, being a hero really means something.
Each part of the series features very interesting and well told story. The combat is intuitive and fast, and the game mechanics are very easy to get into. So, if you want to test your cRPG skills or find out how they made games back then, this series is an excellent place to start your journey.

I played this game for the first time on Amiga computer. I guess it was my first RPG game I fall in love with. I remember it was a time when Eye Of Beholder serie was recognized as the best but honestly, I didnt like it. I valued Ishar serie much more ? Why ? Mostly because of open area. Eye of the Beholder was mostly about dungeons, while Ishar had both - beautiful open areas, cities, as well as dungeons.
I'm not sure how would I rate Ishar now - combat system, moving system looks very oldschool, but I'll always remember that Silmarils logo appear at the beginning. It's an absolute classic placed in beautiful universe and nice story.
Atari and Amiga version looks and sounds much better than PC-DOS version at least for Ishar 1 I tried and checked. But if you don't want to bother with emulators, you should try this great hard-core CRPG game no matter what.
This is gem among dungeon crawlers. I remember playing it on Amiga 1200, still have old manuals. I like RPG system, unique items and spells, recruiting party members in taverns and exploring huge open worlds on square grid. Game has really nice and colourfull graphics and enviroinment. I think it had best looking woods at the time,
If you like dungeons and RPGs like Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder or other old dungeons, definetely pick this one up.
Maybe this is not the best RPG ever but have the charm of the classics.
Easy to play, pretty to see, absolutely no more info than necessary and, if you want more ... go out and explore!
Many hours of classic RPG fun for a really cheap price! I think this is truly a very good deal.
As the other reviews point out, there's a lot to either love or hate in these games, depending on where you stand. As a self proclaimed Fantasy nubjob I'm going for love here.
The price/quality in terms of hours of gameplay here is excellent.
