DEFCON 2 - runs great on Mac with Wine

The game is best described as the successor of the game DEFCON. It extends the game mechanics of DEFCON by adding things like a technology tree, satellites, and so on. An important innovation are the so-called attack plans, which can be used to automate and coordinate large-scale attacks. This saves a lot of micromanagement. Unlike DEFCON, there is apparently no unit limit. Units can be built and placed anywhere within the area of influence. Likewise, any number of bombs and rockets can be built and units can be reloaded. The phases of defcon, such as setting up units, moving units, first attacks on the enemy and launching nuclear missiles are also dropped. Compared to the game DEFCON ICBM plays a bit slower, which is probably due to the more extensive game mechanics. ICBM also runs perfectly over Wine (Wrapper 2.9.0.6; Engine WS11WineCX64Bit19.0.2) on my Mac (macOS Catalina), if I don't use the Launcher.exe, but the ICBM.exe.

Speaking to Defcon fans

I don't currently have much time to write an in-depth review of the game so I'm speaking directly to fans of Defcon with an understanding of the concept. If you enjoyed Defcon buy this instantly. They've hit a genius stride of strategy where it's not too complex and not too simple. It's perfectly in between. You'll be faced with decisions like should you control the ocean around your coasts or sacrifice some research time (time is basically your money and there's a slider to control if you want to focus on research or production or both) to go on the offensive. You can play a game in about two hours and I've not yet played MP but have watched a couple games and it looks fun. The AI puts up a good challenge and there's 3 levels of difficulty. Also the game is open for mod creation, and the devs plan on adding more to the game. If you liked Defcon this is a no brainier. I've not encountered any bugs so far.

Awesome Game, sadly lagging behind extremely in Updates!

I really like this Game. It is relatively easy to learn to get started with, but has a good amount of depth and Strategies to be explored. This makes for awesome Gameplay and lots of tactics and approaches to choose from. Then, in addition, the map of the World is nearly completely adjustable! You can make your own coalitions and scenarios pretty easily. There's also some really cool pre-built scenarios that can be lots of fun. You can even play this Game extremely well on a Laptop! Best Part: Modding. Sadly, most mods are on the Steam Workshop only, but once you figure out how to get the files, it is as easy as creating a new folder "Mods" inside the ICBM Directory and pasting the Folders with the Mods you downloaded into there. I just got into Modding the game today, so I will see how it actually improves the game from now on, but there is SO much potential!

A good surprise

I saw a review randomly for this game, looked interesting and was just 20$. I got it and started playing, and I really like it. I didnt think much at first, but its really good and relaxing.
