As the Cold War drew to a close, the world believed that peace would reign across the globe. It seemed that a new age had dawned, an age of lasting unity between nations, but this was not the case. Instead the fight for global supremacy had only been forced underground into the battlefield of covert ops and evil acts of terror.
Into this arena sprung a new force. Masked behind the guises of subterfuge, plausible deniability and information management, the Institute for Geotactical Intelligence raised the sword against those who would subjugate the world.
Though the malignancy of terrorism has broken our world on occasion, the global crucible has not yet boiled over into World War III. For that thank the one-man army David Jones and the forever-unsung heroes of IGI.

This game.....
I played through Project I.G.I. (I still own a copy) and hooray there is a second game.... which is garbage.
this game should be renamed: YOU vs. AIMBOTS
I know.... this isnt Call of Duty... this is no Ego Shooter....
But it isnt a good game after all and thats the problem. i played almost all stealth and tactics shooters of the last 25 years and i know how such games have to be played. this game is just frustrating trial and error trash.
thanks but no thanks. a game that can be skipped.
IGI 2 is a game that I first played right after its launch and which I still have on my PC. The stealth shooting was loads of fun. The AI was dumb in some missions but that is something which I see in almost every other single player game.
There are a lot of things which I liked about this game when I played it first. The use of weapons was tactical - I would use knife, pistol and rifle depending on the situation. I could also choose between the main path and alternate path in most of the missions. Same with the AI units, you could spray bullets or selectively shoot or sneak past them without engaging in a fight. The mission maps were nice although a couple of them were frustrating (Border Crossing & Air Strike maps - too big and sneaking slowly made it a drag). I liked some missions a lot - Deep in the mines can be completed without using any weapon, Zaleb's stronghold had shooting from helicopter and The Ancient temple had thermal vision sniping. Part of the fun was also timing AI movement to snipe multiple targets with the same bullet.
In terms of the audio and graphics, I would say they are quite OK for a game from 2003. Game runs smooth, there are no FPS stutters, don't remember any major bugs. The only cases of pixelated graphics ( which I don't like) were in the cut scenes.
Overall a pretty good game. I was surprised to find that it wasn't reviewed favorably by critics because I had never come across a player (those I know in real life) who didn't like it. It was amongst a few games ( Counter Strike, Unreal Tournament, Age of Empires, Age of Mythology, Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2, Splinter Cell, No One Lives Forever 2, Hitman 2 Silent Assassin) that were unanimously popular in my friends group way back then. Not a bad set of games to be a part of IMHO.
