This is pretty much what you wanted: More HuniePop!
It's got some fun new features, so it's not exactly the same, but it's still a very competent match 3 game, an "ok" dating sim, and a good chuckle - it's periodically pretty funny. Some of the hunies from part one make a return (sadly not my favourite ones) and they're written mostly the same, and they're still good.
Unfortunately, for reasons beyond comprehension, the GOG version is saddled with censorship. There's ways around that, of course, but a bad call that just adds needless annoyances for those of us who want the whole game - I wish I'd known before I made that day one purchase!
Huniepop 2 is just so nearly a good game batted down by unfunny writing and cultural caricatures that would make a political cartoonist proud. And Polly.
I'm not certain what goes on the heads of many creatives minds, but taking the approach that Punch Out did with characters such as "Vodka Drunkinski" and "Pizza Pasta" which were considered overt & on the nose for the era they were from.
And for some reason, instead of the well rounded and heartily written cast of the first game, this is what we get instead. Full stop Japanese Fashion blackface. (Ganguro) And the "sexually oppressed Muslim working in airport security." Subtlety is not a frying pan applied full force to the head.
While I find GOG's decision to not just "behind curtain" this and other titles around the store to be at the end of the day, a downright baffling decision, that doesn't matter as the uncensor patch is literally as simple creating a named file.
At the end of the day this is a good game in a bad skin, just like the Binding of Issac. Beneath all the layers of crap belies a particularly fun take on the Match 3 genre. If you can look past the glaring problems with the underlying tone of the story, you do you. But I'll do Danbooru, thank you.
Finally, the elephant sized mouse in the room: Polly. Polly is meant as a take on the phrase, "Sweet Polly Oliver", in which a woman in a who goes in drag to appear in masculine activities. This is not who Polly is or represents. Polly is trans.
And the way the writers at Huniepot handled this was unexemplary; given the remainder of the writing, non-inclusion would have proven more prudent.
Also lacking in representation is content for straight ladies, bisexual guys and all rainbows between, but at this point, I'd be tempted to take the Asexual option of: Just give me the puzzle game without the rest.
Seriously, it's a good puzzle game that goes from a 8 to a 3 thanks in no part to the writing.
For 3, just let me pop the bubbles. No girls.
Just passing through to leave my disatisfaction with GOG's censorship policy.
I always give GOG preferential treatment, but I refused to do it in this case and went with the Steam version, which is uncesored and is also DRM-Free.
