So far enjoying the game. Annoyed by it "missing a DLL", and having to manually google and install the "OpenAL" redistributable. Then game crashes after some minutes of play. Guess I have to restart the whole level. No saving at checkpoints only whole levels...
I finishied the campaign in around 4hours, it was fun, but it crashed twice in that period, i had to re-do the last episode because it crashed while saving my progress I think. It's fun, the story is mysterious and concise, the game often surprises you, overall a nice game, I'd recommend it
In this game you play a nameless hit man who every mission gets a coded phone call to go execute a hit somewhere, be it a hotel or restaurant or whatever. You go there and just slaughter everyone. The whole time you're kind of trying to figure out why you're doing this stuff and there are disjointed cutscenes and dream/hallucination scenes that confuse and obfuscate your character even more. It seems cool at first but I think overall the story is overrated. Without spoiling it, it's not as cool as it's made out to be. In the end I thought it was a bit generic.
The gameplay is fun but quickly becomes repetitive. It's pretty hard because you can die just as easily as enemies. Like you pick up a bat and bash a gangsters head in with one hit, but said gangster can do the same back to you. No health bars, just death. Thankfully you quickly reload with very short stages between save points so you can progress. Thing is the levels get repetitive cus all you do is run through em and kill everyone. There's not a lot to it, no puzzles or items, a small bit of stealth.
The presentation is also all retro 90s looking flair 16 bit style. It's cool at first but after an hour or so of play it hurts my eyes and ears.
In all I like this game in short spurts but it's not one I'd play for days on end. It's like playing angry birds on your phone- fun way to pass time but not really deep. It's worth a few bucks though.
Looking over many many reviews of this game, I was certain that I was purchasing a winner. Then I played it, and I can't believe I'm playing the same game that everybody else is. (I know I'm four years late to this party, but there it is) So, first off, there's the difficulty level of the game, which I admit I knew going into it. There are plenty of one hit kill games that I like, Smash TV being a particular favorite of mine way back when. The problem here is that the enemies seem to have no discernible pattern, and for the most part it feels like pure dumb luck when I complete a level. One run I go in the front door, its fine, the next I get blasted by a shotgun guy, the next I get eaten by a dog, the next this guy leaves the room, ad naseum. Furthermore, why does this guy always start out without a weapon? It makes absolutely no sense after the first level or so that this dude is just going to show up unarmed to slaughter like 30 guys. For a game that puts so much emphasis on stealth, the mechanics are bland to say the least, you can't crouch, or go in back ways, nothing, just run and hope for the best. No real way to use subterfuge or distract enemies. It's definitely not a good run and gun either, since you have limited ammo and it's hard to change weapons quickly. The enemy sprites all look the same, and the level layouts/enviornments start to blur together. The story is OK I guess, but those little inbetween level segments are utterly pointless, they could have just done a couple cutscene frames (a la Ninja Gaiden) rather than make me physically do one task, and then have absolutely zero additional enviornmental activity. You just walk over and click the arrow that the game literally has pointing above it and then go to your car. What's the point? Why do I have to play post-slaughter errand simulator? Lastly, the soundtrack to this game is awful. It doesn't evoke the 80's at all, it just sounds like somebody's indie mixtape. Save your money and watch Drive and play Contra or something afterwards.
