Everything I'd hoped for
It's a great game. Let me compare it to Hollow Knight. The combat is very satisfying, and the superior enemy variety provides plenty of targets for your needle. Hornet's (dash, dive) attacks combo into more of your attacks nicely; her moveset is very fluid, and is further augmented by tools and special moves that expend silk. This leads to combat being much more expressive and customizable than that of Hollow Knight, and probably also raises the skill floor and the skill ceiling. If you find combat or platforming quite difficult, know it is possible to change Hornet's moveset entirely by finding one of many special items first available about midway through act 1. Hornet's mobility permits a wider variety of level design, and levels generally have more moving parts than those in Hollow Knight. Overall, platforming is riskier as certain environmental hazards deal double damage. Silksong is undoubtedly more difficult than Hollow Knight. I would consider it a difficult game overall. Therefore, in order for one to have fun, you should - be willing to give up on a challenge to pursue a different path, OR - have a moderate tolerance for failure, OR - be able to quickly acquire combat and platforming skill. If you're like me, you'll find the difficulty welcome. Assorted thoughts: - Many act 1 bosses lack immediate reward, but open a path to something good - I found the quality of most of the act 1 bosses to be sub-par by Hollow Knight standards (~3 were above par), but the bosses end of act 1 onwards have been super fun so far - Tools are very powerful, and dispatch additionals very quickly making them quite useful for big fights locked to a room, bursting down large enemies, or taking a big chunk off a boss health pool - The fetch quests are not very interesting, but some provide good rewards (the tracking and hunting quests are pretty good all around) - The music and visuals are excellent - On my old laptop, Silksong performs perfectly Reviewed on release 1.0.28324
