A bit dated, but still a must-play
It has 1 of the best soundtracks ever made! It's a bit dated, but still a must-play. You are required to go in stealth mode every time when in disguise, even if it would be weird. This was fixed from the 4th game, Blood Money. To achive Silent Assassin rank in all missions, there's 1 the enemies may kill themselves by truck, killing your score too. Very annoying!

Big improvement over Hitman: Codename 47
Hitman 2: Silent Assassin is a big improvement over Hitman: Codename 47, so I wouldn't go back any earlier in the series than this if you want to see how things started. Expect frustration with some of the missions as they can be very unforgiving!

Great classic, needs abit of tinkering
Love this game, took me 20 minutes reading through forums and tinkering to get it running on my gaming laptop. I was getting a blank screen on booting the vanilla GoG version, so I added the enb converter and nemesis widescreen mod and now it runs perfectly.

Dated, but fun nostalgia trip
I just replayed this game after about a decade since my last play-through. During this period I had been unable to run the game properly on my Windows 10 machine. Fortunately, I found a mod (uploaded by the user MikhailRock on the website NexusMods) with which I was able to run this game flawlessly. The aforementioned weblink also contains instructions on how to install the mod, which is very easy and takes less than 2 minutes. The game itself is just as I remembered it from 20 years ago. I'm not sure if I should recommend it to fans of later installments, since this was the series' first attempt at the Silent Assassin mechanics... and it shows. This version is the most tedious and requires quite a bit of patience to finish with a perfect score. Still, Hitman 2 (2002) has a decent variety of environments (you get to visit countries all over the world) and a strong soundtrack to mach each of them. I'm also giving it a plus for going through the trouble of having voice lines in the actual languages of the places that you visit (something which adds a lot to the feeling of immersion, but games from that era often disregarded). TLDR: Works well, good for going on a nostalgia trip, if you can put up with the dated mechanics.
