best of a great series
for me this is the best game of the series. i started playing heroes of MM2 and picked this up shortly after it was released. i've played 4 and 5, but 3 is the version i like the most. random maps that work and a wide variety of fairly balanced factions make it endlessly replayable

Old and gold
From a graphical point of view HoMM 5 and 6 of course are far better and advanced, but HoMM 3 was a game changer; the fractions are roughly equally strong (a HUGE advantage over HoMM 1 and 2), the stories are still worth playing and reading. I love that whole series even though I haven't played part 7 yet. Thanks and kudos to GoG for keeping and maintaining this gem of a game!
