If you have not played this series of games, you need to now. This is where it all started. More primitive then the later titles, but still solid strategy game play.

My introduction to the series is the inferior GBC port, but this PC version is much better. And it paved the way for the rest of the series.

Sparkling gem

I keep coming back to this HOMM due to the art style, music, and design. The campaign itself is completely mediocre, but the real sparkling gem of this game is the Standard mode which has unlimited playability.
