Heroes of Hammerwatch is a rogue-lite action-adventure game set in the same universe as Hammerwatch. Encounter endless hordes of enemies, traps, puzzles, secrets and lots of loot, as you battle your way through procedurally generated levels to reach the top of the Forsaken Spire.

A rogue-lite with a lot of persistent progression. You will start each run in Outlook, a town which you can upgrade to grant your heroes with various enhancements that will further help you in your quest. The heroes themselves will also remain persistent, you can even bring your own heroes to your friends game!
  • Procedurally generated content: Random generated levels offers a high replay value and will bring you a new challenge with each run.
  • Persistant progression: Your heroes will retain the experience gained from a run, and will become more powerful as they level up.
  • Town upgrades: Construct/Upgrade 10 different buildings that will help your heroes in various ways.
  • Classes: Choose from 7 different classes, all with unique stats, abilities and playstyles.
  • Items: Find or buy over 100 unique items of various rarity.
  • Co-op: Play with up to 3 friends in co-op.
  • New Game+: Heroes of Hammerwatch will be a real challenge, and even if you beat it, the challenge never ends!

Bad control decisions

I really like Heroes of Hammerwatch for what it is: a fine rogue-lite ARPG - no matter the grind-fact. The team has included many good ideas into the game. But what really destroys the experience for me are the bad controls compared to the first game. You have to use both control sticks to just move - one for walking in a specific direction, and the second to look in a specific direction. If you just want to walk, the view doesn't face the walking direction. Furthermore if attacking, it is a auto-trigger attack (constantly attacking). I prefer to attack once for each button pushing. Autotrigger should be optional imo. Not a satisfying game experience and a lack of immersion due to the bad controls.

A Stellar Follow-Up to One of My Favs

I'll keep this short and sweet: the only reason this game is not 5 stars is lack of local Co-op. HoH gets everything else spot-on. This is easily top 5 games in my opinion and is both exciting and relaxing. There's nothing like delving into the unknown dungeons in search of baddies to crush, classes to unlock, gear to loot, and experience to gain. Add magnificently done pixel graphics and a throwback chiptune-esque soundtrack and you get an instant classic. Now, I've wasted enough time on this review, the dungeons are calling my name. P.S. Seriously. Add couch co-op and I may never stop playing.

No local Co-Op

In order to play multiplayer you MUST be connected to the internet. You cannot play on LAN. The game is fun. But no local co op is a total let down.

My two personal "NO Sire"

Local Coop -> Like in the first game Hamerwatch -> No Sir! just Lan / Internet :-( Easy to learn controls -> Like in the first game Hamerwatch -> No Sir! Gamepad sucks here! I really liked the first game, i played it with my children in front of the pc with 3 gamepads, but HoH just sucks so much. We are really disapointed. DO NOT BUY.

A real grind.

No way to save game progress. Too easy to be killed even on first level. would be better if had a coice of mode difficulty. requires a good deal of dexterity to stay alive.
