Heretic + Hexen

I was hoping to play Heretic / Hexen with wide screen support, mouse look, and a crosshair like the updated edition of Rise of the Triad and Blood. Sadly at first this was a major let down. They tried to trick me into thinking it was good because the first levels of both Heretic and Hexen were almost the same as the classics. So I kept playing Heretic and by the second level they started to change things and by the third level I was in full blown rage for how they butchered this classic. They completely redesigned the third level (and not for the better). It looks like a bad amateur mod of Heretic, nothing even close to greatness of the original. They also rebalanced the weapons and changed there ammo caps! Why are they trying so hard to take a near perfect game and ruin it? I was almost ready to uninstall this steaming pile of garbage but I did some research and found the hidden options to revert the game back to it original glory (Single Player - Level Select - Game Modifiers). They couldn't just put these 'Options' in the 'Options' menu. I guess they had to hide them, otherwise no one would play their horrible vision of the classic. Still going to give it 3 stars for the hideous remake of the classic levels and the uninspired new episodes that Nightdive keep curning out. I guess if you don't like ZDoom OR can't handle a keyboard and mouse you might like this, but beyond that their is no real new value here. Luckly I got it for free.

I mean the originals were already good. And pixely as hell. And upscaled pixely is still pixely, which is fine i guess. And no point can i say i feel like the graphics have been "modernised". Remix soundtrack is nice as well; just 1:1 recreation of original songs, in more than 8-bit. The main problems are mods require you to sign into Bethesda, because Microsoft. And also I cannot for the life of me join a multiplayer lobby. And given how few there are I imagine most people have this issue. You join and immediately get disconnected with an icon that seems to indicate no connection; on servers that show less than 50ms latency. New chapters are ok? I mean they're not exactly ground breaking. tedious at times due to how few powerups there are around; and in Hexen in particular damage is almost guaranteed with Fighter or Cleric. I would have liked to play this multiplayer but it doesn't work. I would have liked to browse the mods but it requires i sign into Bethesda (which i won't). So overall mediocre effort.

Graphics have been kept almost the same except for minor updates and the new shield for the cleric is perfect addition- this is how you remaster a classic game.

I got this for free as I already own the hacked originals dosboxing, this kex or whatever port is interesting. There are AI "behavior" and weapon balancing a plenty some I noticed some I did not. The maps are expanded which is not a good thing to me most were already plenty big making some last longer is not a good thing. Ok so lets be positive for a minute unlike the Bloodkek port this actually works yay. It does look a tiny bit better than the old dos version. There is a sub menu where you can turn some of the new jank off so theres that. In my opinion this was a wasted opportunity two games that needed quality of life improvements but just got polish and poorly conveived rebalance.

Heretic/Hexen é uma das minhas franquias favoritas e poder ver esse épico clássico receber essa repaginada é um verdadeiro colírio para os meus olhos e um alento para a minha alma. De coração eu digo: Muito obrigado por fazer está criança que vos escreve sorrir mais uma vez :)
