Almost perfect mix of CCG and roguelike.

First of all i'd like to actually call this game a roguelike rather than roguelite since endless mode is... pretty much that. You have your hero an unexplored "dungeon" made out of cards some gear and a limited number of food with your goal baing finding the next flight of stairs repeating untill you die. Death however is not a scenario where you lose everything since during your travels in either story or endless mode you might encounter cards with a token tied to them. By performing a certain action you can aquire said token which in turn transforms into more cards for your deck after you die or kill the boss in story mode. Basically almost every expedition ends up giving you extra cards to encounter in later games... and not all of them are good cards. All in all the card part of the game is a giant boon for eventual future development or DLC since adding new cards should be a relatively simple (and hopefully cheap) affair. The combat itself is... ok considering it was made with a gamepads lack of precision in mind so the character often jumps around in order to hit (especially noticable when attacking after a roll) but its generally responsive enough (you can cancel attack animations by rolling) and the times i fell into a trap when rolling were more due to me misjudging the distance my character rolls or not spotting the trap in the first place. My only real gripe is the camera on some (large) arenas not allowing you to see some enemies. This is fortunately somewhat remedied by on screen indicators that show you attacking enemies giving you enough time to roll or counter. All in all i think the game is one of the better recent releases and something to at least check out if you'd like to see how a merge of CCG, Roguelike and Arkham combat plays out.

Great for fun in short or long term

I played the game in early access too, and it made really fun! Great gameplay. I really liked that one can sit down and play 10 mins, half an hour and have fun. In case of most games the gamer need much more time to feel an improvement in a game. Now by release they polished a lot, and I'm glad I supported them on Kickstarter! :)

A fine and interesting mix of elements

I have it on Steam from the Early Access program with 40+ gameplay hours. Anyhow this is not quite a deck building like Ironclad Tactics, not quite a rogue-like Binding of Isaac and not exactly fights like Batman Arkham but man this is fun. Can be frustrating in times and after the story you're only left with endless mode which is sort of like an arcade version (but only in the sense of the scores at the end). Sets a great mood and some innovative mix of mechanics and defiantly worth playing (design-wise is a great material to learn from if you design a game). Not sure that for everyone it worth 25$ but well worth it in a sale. Hopefully it will sell well to have a multiplayer sequel.

The USP is The Flaw

TL;DR Great for theme and fun mechanics early on but don't expect to be kept occupied by it for long as it becomes repetitive. Hand of Fate is a board game with real time Arkham style combat in which you will face the dealer. Each level is built from cards that you choose from those that you have collected as you play through the game. The theme is brilliant blending card and computer game very nicely with nice visuals and sounds. The games concept is quite unique for PC gaming but similar to some living card in the board game market. I don't believe that they have built enough on the weaknesses that exist in the board game and in some aspects I believe the board games are better. The developer should have investigated a more dynamic play style and utilised the possibilities with the PC more rather than keeping it a strict board game clone. I believe the games unique selling point is ultimately its main flaw as the board game influence locks it in to a repetitive and predictable cycle. The games background does it no favours either as its always the same place. Maybe the developer could have broke it up with more cut scenes for the in game events rather than combat and stores only. Another RPG card game which had a similar theme but wasn't repetitive was Lost Kingdoms on the Nintendo Game Cube which maybe worth a look. In conclusion it's definitely worth a play if you like the concept but would avoid it if you want a deep, complex or a game that will keep you occupied in the long run.
