Gunship

Worked better than the old days (for me)

Back in the day, I used to play GS2000 on a 386 with pc sound with the diskette version. This version has only crashed once with the check the mission screen in the briefing area. I had to re-map the keys to a game pad as dosbox doesn't play nice with my current regions keyboards (ctrl + f1 for those that need to do it). So, has been a new experience in that respect. Currently at 2nd Lieutenant and having a blast sneaking up from the low with the cannon. Going up to 1100 to do the locate and destroy ones with the ol hellfires while blasting the radar jammers and flares on the incoming stuff. Well, I hope they find the version that the other posters are talking about, but this version works fine for me. My disks are gone, but now I have this legal version, so I am happy to enjoy the game I played back when I was a kid. Less buggy than back then and I don't have to fight with the conventional memory limits of the time.

Does not work on Windows 11

Although the download info said it could be compatible with Windows 11, it doesn't seem to work on that, sorry guys.

Gunship 2000, still fun

Still owning original game and disks from 1991 and expansion pack from 1992, still fun game to play.

Gunship 2000

Truly a great old game. The only game like this where you control other helicopters in a seperate group. You determine their missions and armament. You are responsible for keeping them safe and rescue them when necessary. As they are promoted, they become better.

Enjoyed just as much as I did in the 90s

This now includes the Islands and Ice expansion for Gunship 2000, making the price even more attractive for me as I never got to play the expansion originally. Runs pretty well on Win 11, easy to play in a window with the (by modern standards) simple reference card PDF open in another window. Am only playing on the keyboard for now until i dig out my joystcik and throttle - doesn't seem to be any rudder functionality so rudder not needed... Had a couple of minor system issues but nothing worth crying over and possibly down to me... Graphics and sound are very much of the early 90s flavour but in now way distracted me from the joy of the game - first mission I was NOE along a river bed just like the old days... Interface is just busy enough for me to play with asome quick revision without having to remember dozens and dozens of keyboard combinations.
